On February 19, 1473, exactly 550 years ago in Toruń, was born 🇵🇱 Mikołaj Kopernik - Nicolaus Copernicus, Polish Renaissance-era mathematician, astronomer, one of the world’s best-known scientists, father of modern astronomy, and Catholic canon who formulated a model of the universe that placed the Sun ☀️ rather than Earth 🌍 at the center of the universe. He was also clerk, diplomat also dealing with economics, military strategy, cartography and philology.
In reference to the anniversary of the birth of Copernicus, on February 19, we also celebrate the Polish Science Day, remembering Polish scientists who had a significant impact on the world, such as: Maria Skłodowska-Curie, Jan Czochralski, Henryk Arctowski, Stanisław Ulam and, of course, Nicolaus Copernicus.
In 2023, we will also commemorate the 480th anniversary of the death of this great Polish scientist. These two anniversaries related to Nicolaus Copernicus are a great opportunity to get to know this person better. The ideal place for this is the Copernicus Science Center in Warsaw - Centrum Nauki Kopernik.
