Vieques Humane Society needs your help. Please read the message from the director of VHS below and consider helping.

In the past month alone, 28 dogs and cats were surrendered to VHS, while only 14 found new homes or were reunited with their owners. At present, we are caring for 73 animals. In addition, our partner shelters are at full capacity and have been unable to accept new animals for several months.

To address this issue, they are waiving adoption fees for the month of December and urgently request your support in these areas:

1. Adopt, Don't Shop: We implore anyone contemplating the addition of a new pet to their family to consider adopting a shelter animal. Our website showcases a diverse range of pets eagerly awaiting loving homes. If you're not on Vieques, we'll collaborate with you to arrange transportation. There's no better time to welcome a shelter pet into your family.

2. Be a travel es**rt: Take a small dog or kitten back to the States with you. VHS takes care of all logistics and fees! Fill out our volunteer form to help.

3. Spread the Word: We ask for your assistance in sharing information about our adoptable pets with friends and family. Additionally, we invite you to contact your local shelters or rescues to explore the possibility of them accepting a transfer of animals from Vieques.

VHS alleviates the suffering of our island’s animals by providing temporary shelter, finding forever homes, offering spay-neuter services and a low-cost veterinary clinic for our community.

We planted Villa Destino's first coconut palm. Amazing how you simply put a coconut in sandy soil and water it. 3 to 6 months later, you get this. Who knew!

We are happy to report that Vieques did not sustain significant damage with the passing of Hurricane Fiona. Villa Destino is fine and we have not heard of any damage or flooding on Vieques. Unfortunately, the main island of Puerto Rico was not as fortunate and our thoughts and prayers are with all the people dealing with significant flooding and damage. All exactly 5 years after the devastation of Maria.
