While things start to get cooler, let’s have a look back at one of the most popular and beautiful summer locations in Italy 🇮🇹

🛶 CINQUE TERRE 🛶

🌄 Cinque Terre can be found on the coast of Liguria and is made up of 5 towns.

🏊‍♀️ It’s pretty accessible from many different places and is filled to the brim with beautiful restaurants, hikes and swimming spots.

🥾 There is a Cinque Terre card which can be purchased in the summer months and this can save you loads on transport costs as well as includes the passes needed for hiking.

🗺 Manarola is one of the most popular towns to visit and if you get there before 10am you share it with mainly locals.

🏖 Montesrosso is the only town with an actual beach. It’s super popular and it’s recommended to get there early to try get a space in the free area of the public beach.

🍝 offers a spectacular basil pesto experience (more on this later on in the week) and has the most sought after views of Manarola.

Stay tuned for more Cinque Terre content this week!

Maui is a relatively safe place to visit! Millions of people visit every year.

That’s not to say that there aren’t any hazards.

Here are a few ways to stay safe:
• Ocean Safety : The water can be fun but dangerous! Wear a life jacket, trust your instincts and be aware of currents. If you are not comfortable going in, staying on the beach is just as nice 😊
• Hiking : Don’t push yourself too much! Stay hydrated and don’t go out in restricted areas/too near closing time.
• Wildlife : respect wildlife! Our ability to admire it is a gift!
The information on this carousel is not all inclusive, just a few notes to help you get a notion of how to stay safe.

Maui: Inmerse yourself in nature 🏝

Maui is pretty safe and fun to visit! Remember to be respectful of local customs and clean up after yourself.

Some notable activities to do:

•Bamboo Forest: on the road to Hana you will find this Bamboo forest. If you are up for the hike, go and become one with nature. Very relaxing. Go early if you want to avoid the crowds.

• Honolua Bay: A must see if you enjoy snorkeling and don’t want to go on a boat. Limited parking, rocky shore, pack in and out leave no trace. The earlier in the day you go, clearer waters. Be prepared for a walk down.

• Molokini Crater: this one is a splurge but worth it. Take a catamaran tour down to the crater and be amazed by the colors of the tropical fish. Snorkeling or Snuba available.

• Turtle Town: this is a great snorkeling place. Be respectful and only observe turtles from a distance. No touching! This is illegal and can result in a heft fine.

•Haleakala Summit: Make your way up during sunset or sunrise. Reservations required for sunrise (book in advance) and arrive early for Sunset (no reservation, $30 park fee or get park pass)

• Lahaina Front Street: stop by Front street for the strip of souvenir shops, shaved ice and more.

The experiences you get to see by travelling are so refreshing and exhilarating 🌎

Being able to experience how life is done in a different place.
Watching sunsets in a new place.
Grocery shopping in a new place.
Trying out new dishes.
Trying out new restaurants.

All of these experiences help us gain so much more worldly knowledge and develop our awareness of the world and those around us, as well as help us to find ourselves 🌟

It’s pretty cool that the moon we see every night is the same one no matter which country we’re in 💫

General Tips!

• Dowloading apps before you leave your home is the best option!
- Uber and Didi have good and competitive pricing for getting around town. Use both to find the best rate
- If you are not a native speaker, google translate will help you with the basics. Many menus are available with English translation but using the app is an extra help
- Western Union: Use this only for yourself and not for transfer to anyone else unless you trust them. This app is useful if you want to pick up extra money that you did not bring. You can transfer money to an OXXO convenience store and get money in case of an emergency.
- WhatsApp: widely used in many Spanish speaking countries. Many use this as way to book appointments and can help when you need to call numbers with the Mexican area code.

• Tip 2: be adventurous! Try renting a bike for a day or check if your airbnb includes them. This bike was included by my airbnb and allowed free travel to the Malecón.

•Tip 3: On google maps, download the city before hand so in case you don’t have reliable internet connection you will have a way to get around without wifi.

I spent a week in BCS back in April and had the most splendid time.

La Paz meaning “The Peace” in English, lives up to its name. A safe city for solo female travelers and groups alike.

In the heart of La Paz you will the the famous Tiburón Ballena (Whale Shark) covering walls in forms of murals, statues and tours.

In order of appearance:

Travel doesn’t need to break the bank, here are a few money saving tips for ✨ London ✨

1. Restaurants and bars are super expensive in London, rather grab some picnic goodies from one of the grocery stores around London and have a picnic in one of London’s many famous parks 🌳

2. Londoners love walking. Although it sounds a bit excessive to walk 45mins to get to your lunch spot, it’s a great way to see the city. This could help you save huge amounts on travel expenses🚶🏽‍♀️

3. If walking isn’t sounding like the most compatible option for the day, Citimapper allows you to compare the prices of different public transport routes 🗺

4. There are loads of free galleries and inexpensive forms of entertainment in London. A good idea is to visit the Tate Modern gallery or take a walk through Covent Garden where you’ll find multiple street performers 🥁

5. Instead of booking a boat trip on the River Thames through a private company, rather pay less than £10 to hop on an Uber boat (a form of public transport in London) which runs between Putney and Barking Riverside with multiple stops at the most popular London attractions ⛴

Destination of the week: ✨ London ✨

There are so many cool places to visit in London

🇬🇧 Buckingham Palace: The changing of the guards takes place every day in the summer.

🇬🇧 Horse Guards Parade: The place to capture the ultimate ‘I’ve been to London’ photo.

🇬🇧 Trafalgar Square: Home to the National Gallery.

🇬🇧 Big Ben: After being under construction for the past 5 years, it’s now able to be witnessed in all its glory.

🇬🇧 Tower Bridge: Not to be confused with London Bridge. This iconic structure now includes a slide which was installed in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

🇬🇧 London Eye: An attraction that deserves to be on anyone’s London ‘To-do list’.

🇬🇧 St Paul’s Cathedral: To experience the view pictured here, go to the One New Change Building.

🇬🇧 Notting Hill: Home to the famous Portobello Market.

🇬🇧 Carnaby Street: The most exciting street in London with a not to be missed food court called Kingley Court.

Which one would you go to first?

LET'S TALK FOOD IN PUERTO RICO! 🇵🇷😋 YUM!

Mofongo: Mofongo is a Puerto Rican dish with fried plantains as its main ingredient. The mofongo is topped with grilled chicken, steak, or shrimp and a delicious garlic sauce or house red sauce. It's usually served with a little salad. My favorite is the garlic sauce - "salsa al ajillo"

Tostones: Tostones are smashed and fried plantains. These are usually served as an appetizer or a side dish. Depending on the restaurant they will sometimes come with a house sauce, but you can always ask for mayo-ketchup! Mayo ketchup is exactly what it sounds like: a mix of mayo and ketchup. It might sound funny, but don't knock it til you try it. It's SO TASTY.

Arroz y Habichuelas: AKA rice and beans! Every Latin country has their own take on rice and beans and the Puerto Rican version is absolutely one of the best! The beans are made with pumpkin and chorizo and the flavor is unparalleled.

Let's visit PUERTO RICO! 🇵🇷

☀️ Puerto Rico is a US territory. So, if you are a US citizen traveling to the island, you do not need a passport! Your Driver's License is all you need.

☀️ The main languages on the island are Spanish and English. Spanish is spoken by everyone, English is spoken by some people. To be honest, I would brush up on your Spanish on before your visit, just to make things a LITTLE bit smoother.

☀️ Puerto Rico is stunning in its beauty and is home to the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest Service. It's a beautiful place to hike and see magical waterfalls.

☀️ When you visit be sure to try "mofongo." It's one of the most delicious local foods made with plantains. You can get it at just about any restaurant!

How can you take the best selfies when you're traveling???

After six years of traveling I think I have the answer 😂👏

☀️ Invest in a foldable/collapsable tripod that you can easily carry with you.☀️

My favorite ones are the kind that come with a bluetooth clicker so that you can attach the clicker to bluetooth and avoid having to run back and forth setting the timer.

The bluetooth clicker makes it easier (no running and trying to pose super quickly) and safer (you'll get your photo way faster, leaving your phone exposed for less time)!

Street food in Bogotá! 😋🤤 I love street food and make it a mission to try it everywhere. Here’s the best of my afternoon walk in La Candelaria.

1. MANGOS - there were ripe mangos and shredded green mangos with chili.
2. ROASTED CORN
3. FRESH CHURROS / CHIPS - are your team churro&chocolate or team churros with cinnamon sugar??
4. McD - desserts only 🍦
5. EGG AREPA - completely deep fried arepa with egg in the middle, topped with a fresh guacamole sauce.

It was interesting; I’ve never had an arepa like that before! I would eat it again, it was pretty good. I think it would be very good hangover food 😂😅 Very greasy!

Pro tips with street food: buy things that are being made fresh (freshly chopped, pealed, cooked, etc) and always carry cash 💵!

What’s the tastiest street food you’ve ever had? Tell me in the comments!

Tips for hiking the Cerro de las Tres Cruces ✝️✝️✝️ en Cali, Colombia 🇨🇴

I really did 0 research before starting the hike, which promptly resulted in a failed attempt because a woman at the base of the mountain told me it was too dangerous to go at that time of day (3pm on a Saturday). She was looking out and was really concerned that I was going by myself at that time. She told me to only go during the mornings.

I decided to come back the next day, but I still didn’t do any additional research…. I thought it was going to be a steep walk!!! I was wrong 😂

Here’s what I learned:
🏔 It’s more than a walk! At many points you will need to use your whole body to pull yourself up and properly climb.
🏔 Because you’ll actually need to climb at several points, bring a backpack or F***y pack for your phone so that you don’t have anything in your hands.
🏔 It gets very toasty and the sun is direct. Wear sunscreen!!
🏔 If you don’t like carrying things with you (me) there are various vendors selling water, juice, and fruit at different points of the trail.
🏔 The trail at times is not very clear, and is a bit of choose your own adventure.
🏔 Wear shoes with good traction. Some of the rocks are smooth and there’s a lot of dust so you can slip easily.
🏔 Local recomendaciones are to go early in the morning (before 11am) and not stay at the top past 2/3pm. This is because the path and área empty out and it may no longer be safe.
🏔 There’s a road that goes back down the mountain, but it’s very empty and again, not recommended by locals bc it’s known to be an area for crime.
🏔 It took me an hour to go up and a little less than an hour to get down. That’s with a relatively good level of fitness so it may go faster/slower for you depending on how you’re feeling 💪

Double tap if you’ve been out in nature lately 🙌

What have you done lately that scared you but you did it anyway? 👀

Whatever it was, BRAVO to you 👏👏👏

On my end, solo travel as a digital nomad/ volunteer/ backpacker/ etc. doesn't intimidate me in the least, BUT throwing myself into local activities like dance classes or going out by myself certainly does!

However, we all have a choice. Either be scared of the thing and don't do it, or be scared of the thing and do it anyway.

At the end of the day I always want to be able to say that I was scared, but I did it anyway. The alternative is a whole bunch of wishing that I had gone for it. 😕 And that's really no fun.

I will either try and have a great time or try and fail spectacularly, and both outcomes are fine by me because they mean I went for it.

So whatever thing it is you want to do or try, GO FOR IT! You are STRONG enough, BRAVE enough, and COURAGEOUS enough to do it.

Action brings confidence and the more times that you lean into the scary thing, nervous sweats and all, the more that you are building that self-confidence muscle and knowing that you are capable.

What are you nervous to try/do and when are you going to go for it?! Tell me in the comments. 🥰🥰🥰

My name is Cassandra and I started traveling at 22. I put myself through college, paid off my student loans (lots of coupons and discounted groceries!) my first year of corporate work, and then quit my job to teach English in Thailand. From there I learned how to backpack and eventually, travel with Work Exchanges.

Since getting started in 2015, I’ve traveled to 24 countries and have done Work Exchanges in places like Casablanca, Morocco; Madrid, Spain; and Mbale, Uganda.

Currently based out of San Juan, Puerto Rico, I was born in the United States about an hour outside of Washington DC. I studied Business Marketing at the College of William and Mary, where I graduated Cum Laude at age 20. After graduation I accepted a job in tech sales with Hewlett Packard, where I worked for about a year and a half before chasing my dreams of traveling the world.

Altogether I had visited 24 countries and traveled through 19 of them solo. I’ve had taught ESL in a high school and a kindergarten, I’ve had tutored adults in English, helped government officials prepare for job interviews in a second language, given self-defense classes, au paired twins, written grant proposals, set up business structures for a non-profit, helped plan a garden wedding, repainted a hostel, organized beach clean-ups, ghost-written blog posts, and managed materials for the construction of a glamp site.

I’ve had stayed in over 45 hostels, a large number of AirBnbs, and a handful of CouchSurfing hosts’ homes. My favorite Couch Surfing experience was in the United Arab Emirates.

My next intended travel destinations include Colombia and Brazil.

Let’s get to know each other! Comment your name down below. 👇

⭐️One of the most important steps in figuring out how to pack for your trip is figuring out what you must bring & what you can buy there.

⭐️Beside the essentials like glasses, documentation, medication and more, common toiletry items often don’t need packing.

⭐️As for clothes, choose items of clothing you can use to form different outfits. It’s also a good idea to avoid any clothing that requires special care, such as ironing or hand washing.

⭐️If you’re working and traveling, outside of work clothes, pack clothing that’s appropriate for the season and climate. Don’t forget the accessories!!!

⭐️When packing electronic devices, pack them securely so they won’t break and well away from toiletries.

✨If you want to see my recommendation on outfits, check my blog by clicking the link in bio. ⬆️

If you’re curious about learning how to travel AND make money at the same time, one option you can check out is teaching online.

iTalki is a great platform that I’ve used as both a student and a teacher. I took Spanish classes and I gave English classes.

You take/give classes 1:1, and if you’re teaching you set your own rates and decide what YOU want to teach. It can be as simple as talking to someone about their day 😊
