IGEDD is initiating the problem of people with disability and thus it will take part of the responsibility towards the disabled people. I myself a disabled person the personal attitude,
emotional and the moral commitment had sustained inside me that I should do something to the people with disability in Palestine despite of all difficulties arising,One thing that I have never forgotten was my defe
nse about the disabled and disability. This action took the shape of participating in numerous actions; workshops, seminars, conferences etc. internally and internationally advocating for the Palestinian human rights especially people with disability. But the chances that you will
become disabled probably are greater than you realize. Yes, " People with disabilities have
been treated as less than people ", but I say that those with disabilities " are seeing themselves as people who don't want to be treated differently ". I hold the belief that I one day want to be a taxpaying member and have my equality as other normal people.I believe in this, I want to hold this until my death and I have been fighting to accomplish it since long time. I see this enterprise is part of the process; it will be successful because I see
success in the end of the tunnel and not failure or disappointment. I, people like me and those ones believing in my mission will take the torture to lighten the tunnel and all together will bring the change and we seek for. The change of attitude of people over time can be
traced and changed so they realize that people with disabilities are not conditions or diseases;
they are individual human beings. My new enterprise is addressing a serious mission, may be it is the first of its kind in Palestine,
and it will target the people with disability and those with special needs. I believe that there
are numerous meshes between our enterprise purposes and missions and your work criteria
and priorities. Some of them are:
1. My project is carried in a developing country.
2. The project is addressing the living conditions of a marginalized and disadvantage
group in Palestine; the disabled and those with special needs.
3. The enterprise goals and objectives are seeking after development for the disabled.
4. The work will not be ever for specific period of time, it will be permanent and
sustained, and thus it is not for temporarily emergency situation.
5. The work will target all people with disability regardless of color, race, religion or even
their political affiliation. It also will focus on gender issue with giving more
participation, involvement and rights for female disabled. GEDD wishes to find possible future partners soon because it is the time to bring changes and
development on the lives with disability and my enterprise as a caring and working entity on
their behalf. I am willing and ready to discuss deeply any future possible partnership with
local and international entities that believe in my project, its mission and goals. Introduction
There is no society in the world free of disabled people and disability. Disability varies from
one to another and perhaps the majority does not pose a burden on society unless we cope,
train and qualify them to become productive tools in the society and as value as other society
members. This helps increase the national income of Palestine for sure and through training
and productivity my project would ease the burden of government and non-governmental
institutions bearing the burden of their expense and care. Disability has been always integrally linked with poverty. In Palestine, the public welfare is
still an issue and it is estimated by national and international agencies that Palestine has
approximately 3% or more of its population living with disabilities. People with disabilities are
part of the poorest among the poor. Approximately 170,000 Palestinian are living with
disabilities and estimated 21% of these people are children. As for the cause of disability, it is
because of war and conflict, polio, congenital diseases, accidents, landmine explosions and
recently because of diabetes. What sparked my attention on this subject is the wrong way that community deals with the
owners of various disabilities which much of this deal is catastrophic and according misleading
culture concepts. The mishandling and poor dealing with these disabled give them great
ignorance, miscalculation and increases their psychological conditions. These conditions will
complex any future dealing with them and it will keep them away from communicating with
the society and recluse them aside as a result of fear of society and mishandling. Fear will become inherent and thus working on the rehabilitation of any disability in the future would not be useful any more. As this happening, it kills in this disabled any possibility of becoming
an effective and productive member in the community. There is an essential need to strengthen the culture of society in its ways of dealings with the
disabled at their various disabilities and its degrees and form a new culture of aid and assistance for them rather than dealing with them in negative battery, ridicule and contempt and this is everyone's responsibility; home, school, and community institutions. As I am part of the disability issue itself and as I myself experienced several dramatic challenges since my childhood, I believe I could be part of those handling the responsibility
towards who are like me. I think my project is going to be a part of taking this responsibility
and wish to see it successful and fruitful since it is Adddressing two important elements;
vocational training and better integration involvements on the economic and social aspects.
