From the heart of Bethlehem, old city today with our pilgrims of Monseñor Peter 😍😍

Bethlehem is known as the birthplace of Jesus and is a significant pilgrimage site for Christians around the world. The Church of the Nativity, built over the traditional site of Jesus’ birth, is one of the oldest continuously operating churches in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Entering the church that marks the site of Christ’s birthplace means having to stoop low. The only doorway in the fortress-like front wall is just 1.2 metres high.🙏🙏

Michaelmas, or the Feast of Michael and All Angels, is celebrated on the 29th of September every year. As it falls near the equinox, the day is associated with the beginning of autumn and the shortening of days; in England, it is one of the “quarter days”. 😍😍

Caves where shepherds “kept watch over their flock” still abound in the area east of Bethlehem. Here, the Gospel of Luke tells us, an angel announced the birth of Jesus.
The angel’s good news was not given to the noble or pious, but to workers with a low reputation. Jewish literature ranked “shepherd” as among the most despised occupations of the time — but Jesus was to identify himself with this occupation when he called himself “the Good Shepherd” (John 10:11). 🙏🙏

The traditional place of the angel’s visit is the town of Beit Sahur. Originally known as the Village of the Shepherds, it is now an eastern suburb of Bethlehem.

Throwback to our pilgrim when they visited Hebron, is a Palestinian city in the southern West Bank, 30 kilometres south of Jerusalem. Nestled in the Judaean Mountains, it lies 930 meters above sea level. 🤩

A fish-market and frontier post beside the Sea of Galilee, Capernaum became Jesus’ home town and the scene of many of his miracles. It was also the home of the first disciples Jesus called — the fishermen Peter, Andrew, James and John, and the tax collector Matthew.🙏🙏

In this town:
• Jesus worshipped and taught in the synagogue
• In the same synagogue, Jesus promised the Eucharist in his “I am the bread of life” discourse: “Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.” (John 6:22-59).
• Jesus and healed many people of illness or possession by the devil, including Peter’s mother-in-law and the daughter of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue.
• Jesus pronounced a curse on the town, along with Bethsaida and Chorazin, because so many of its inhabitants refused to believe in him.😍😍

The Cenacle is on the upper floor of a two-storey building near the Church of the Dormition, south of the Zion Gate in the walls of Jerusalem’s Old City.

The Cenacle room on Mt Zion in Jerusalem is where two major events in the early Christian Church are commemorated: The Last Supper and the coming of the Holy Spirit on the apostles.

• The Last Supper was the meal Jesus shared with his apostles the night before he died. During this meal he instituted the Eucharist.

• The coming of the Holy Spirit, at Pentecost, is recognised as marking the birth of the Christian Church.

Holy Cross Day is also known as the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
The universal symbol of the Christian faith, the cross represents Christ’s victory over death. The feast celebrates the redemptive transformation of a barbaric instrument of torture into a divine “tree of life” that brings hope to humankind. 🕊🙏

Jerusalem with our pilgrimage from Australia, as a holy city for Judaism, Christianity and Islam, Jerusalem has always been of great symbolic importance.

Jerusalem has four quarters in the Old City: Jewish, Muslim, Christian, and Armenian. Each contrasts with each other, yet what remains bizarrely constant is the way in which the residents of this surreal place rush about on their daily business. As one of the most sought after places in the world, the Old City of Jerusalem is a must see for anyone. 🙌🕊

We also shared traditional Palestinan food called Maqluba (or maqlouba, makluba) means upside down. 🤤

The dish is cooked in one pot, with layers of rice, vegetables and chicken or meat (or without), and then flipped over once ready. It can be made with cauliflower, aubergines or other vegetables like tomatoes or mushrooms.

We started a new pilgrimage tour to The Holy Land with group of people from Australia where we started our day in Jericho which is declared as a “World Heritage Site in Palestine.” 🌎

Jericho is one of the earliest continuous settlements in the world, dating perhaps from about 9000 BCE. Archaeological excavations have demonstrated Jericho’s lengthy history. The city’s site is of great archaeological importance; it provides evidence of the first development of permanent settlements and thus of the first steps toward civilization. 🙌
