When people arrived here they named the islands after a bird called the Açor, or in English the Goshawk. But Goshawks don't live here, so this is the bird they most probably saw which is a Kite, or a Milhafre. You can see the endemic species as well as a selection of other imported creatures at the Carlos Machado Museum.

Am glad our favourite Whale Watching boat is back in port as it was away for the winter. I do believe it will soon be the time that whales come on holiday to The Azores too, although none of them want to come on a walking tour I might go on a swim tour with them!

Ducklings in the Jardim Botânico António Borges, 10 in total so a very happy mum. There are cats living there too who don't seem to be too bothered by the ducklings, a good example for the rest of the world right now! 🐣
