Hi everyone, I'm flying to Sao Miguel for a week on Saturday and really looking forward to exploring the island- Looking like rainy showers but that won't stop me! Would love to get out and about doing some sports I love but struggling to find some information so if anyone can shed some light, I would appreciate it so much (Even if you can only answer one!) Sorry in advance if these questions sound self-righteous or snobby, I only want to make the most of my short time :)Anywhere to rent climbing rope for sport climbing so I don't need to fly with one?Best places to rent a surfboard for a week and any other spots worth surfing other than Populo for intermediates? I see there are a lot of reef breaks around which is a bit beyond my level unless conditions are perfect!Would you recommend the diving during the Winter season, and any favourite dive sites?I'm not sure whether pubs or tapas bars or something is a cultural thing but I would love to spend time in some local hide-outs, can you recommend any or anything else that would be a good way to get a feel of local life on the island?I spent a year in NZ and love hot pools. I hate to be the person to ask publically but are there any "secret" hot pools remaining that you might share in PM (I shall not share on as I think that should be for locals only to share if they choose!)Is it possible at all to visit Vila Franca do Campo during Winter? And finally, is there anything left to do that isn't getting quite touristy as I do enjoy seeing places away from lots of people and having a quiet time to enjoy the scenery?Thank you so much, I can't wait to spend time here! via /r/azores https://ift.tt/2Qn9doZ

Hello! I’m planning a month long trip to the Azores from mid January until mid February. I’m going to be ~5 months pregnant so we will be taking it easy. I am an avid hiker and just want access to nature and beauty and would like to walk/hike maybe 2-7km daily. We live in NYC and I’m eager to escape the harsh grey winter out here for a little green scenery. Here’s my biggest question: I love nature and hiking. We will be staying on Sao Miguel for the majority (perhaps all?) of our time. Is it crazy for me NOT to go to Flores and Corvo? They look amazing but I’m hearing very mixed things about the weather that time of the year and the flight seems like a bit of a hassle. Plus, many of the hikes I look up seem too long and strenuous for a pregnant lady. Just curious to hear your thoughts on my dilemma. Thanks so much! Also, my husband and I are both artists in our mid 30s. I’m a photographer. He’s a musician/composer. If there are any other artists out there that would be down to meet up and grab a coffee or something, that would be amazing! via /r/azores https://ift.tt/2PdOoXX

Hello Reddit,Me and my partner are discussing the idea to move to São Miguel after a fantastic visit last summer. But we have some concerns. You see, I work as a painter and can do all my work from home, and my partner have a degree in graphic design and web development, but she's not sure if she wants to continue in that direction - she likes gardening! So I have a few questions:Is there any volunteer work, if so what kind?Is there a demand for graphic designers on the island? What other jobs could be an alternative?Where can we meet new friends? (we don't know anyone who lives there)Big thanks!P.S. We love scuba diving and being outdoors! via /r/azores https://ift.tt/2PaXnsC

Hello :) My Wife and i are going to the azores during dezember/january. We are planing in go to the island of flores too. From there we are thinking staying a couple of days on the island of corvo. But there is like only 4 airbnbs there and 1 hotel and everything is sold out :/ So my question: Is there any other way to sleep there? Do they have maybe local people hosting tourists? Or is it better to just stay in flores and do 1-2 day trips to corvo? Thanks :) via /r/azores https://ift.tt/2zMS8dl

Hello guys!I was thinking about travelling to Ponto Gordo in January. I would very much be intrested in seeing whales, but I would only have a day or so on the islands.Do you think it's worth giving it a try? Or is the ocean too wild in that time? What is the probability of seeing a whale anyways? Thanks in advance! via /r/azores https://ift.tt/2SErpYO

Hello, parents will be traveling to the Azores for thanksgiving week & I've always wanted a Euro Plate from there with my last name on it "Medeiros". Does anyone know of a place where they can get one made and how they go about it? I know you can order online but I would love one made from the islands itself. Or if anyone can link me to a site that has authentic plates that would be great.thanks! via /r/azores https://ift.tt/2QaggND

We've slacked on our planning and now, in a week, we arrive in Sao Miguel. Hoping to find a prepaid SIM card that's quick and easy to set up, and includes, say, 3 GB of hotspot LTE data. We will be on Sao Miguel 4 days and 3 on Horta. Staying in old town Ponta Delgada so we can walk to whatever cell phone shop is likely to have what we need.Any suggestions? Thanks! via /r/azores https://ift.tt/2OjtztF

Hi all.The month of December I will be residing on São Miguel. While I have done enough research to get grasp what living will be like as a "local", I'm still having a little trouble navigating/obtaining some basic information on pages such as this one(the links bing me to a page that is practically blank). Regarding public transportation, could anyone guide me to other resources that may be helpful(and isn't giving me technical problems)? I understand the buses don't run all that often but I would like to at least attempt to make use of them during my visit. Renting a car (or scooter?) will certainly happen at times. Manual transmissions are not an issue for me at all:pReally besides what I stated above, any other general info would be greatly appreciated. Clearly the weather may dictate any activities but I would truly like to get a grasp of how the locals live (interests, how they spend their time, etc) and hopefully interact as much as I can. :) via /r/azores https://ift.tt/2q8VBhH

I was just in Ponta Delgada with my wife and on my last day I planned on buying a jersey from the local club soccer team, from their team store in Ponta Delgada. BUT they were closed! Is there anyone who is going in the coming months who would willing to purchase one with money that I give you?I'd be willing to pay for the inconvenience as well. The store won't respond to my emails so I doubt they'll ship to the US.My hobby is collecting local soccer jerseys from the countries we visit so it's pretty important to me.Rua Comandante Jaime De Sousa, 21P8RH+3C Ponta Delgada, Portugalcdsantaclara.com via /r/azores https://ift.tt/2yYyD0U

Hi! Planning a vacation to the Azores with my boyfriend in June. We have about 18 days and are planning on visiting Sao Miguel, Pico, Sao Jorge, Faial, and Flores. I've been trying to leave enough time on each island, any feedback on my itinerary would be greatly appreciated!! It's basically 3 days in Flores, 1-2 in Faial, 3-4 in Pico, 3-4 in Sao Jorge, and 4-5 in Sao Miguel. As an FYI, we plan on doing a lot of hiking(including climbing Pico) but we don't have many other activities planned yet. Thanks again! I keep changing around the amount of days in each place and need to just make a decision!29-land in Sao Miguel at 6am, fly to Flores at 9am30, 31, 1 - Flores2-Fly from Flores to Faial at 1140am3-Ferry from Faial to Pico (hopefully nighttime)4, 5, 6 - Pico7-Pico to Sao Jorge8, 9, 10 - Sao Jorge11-Fly from Sao Jorge to Sao Miguel at 31512, 13, 14, 15 - Sao Miguel16-Fly back to Boston at 345 via /r/azores https://ift.tt/2PL5yx3

My girlfriend and I will be spending 5 days on Sao Miguel at the end of October and I’m battling between two Airbnb’s - one in Lagoa and another in Vila Franca do Campo. We have ideally been looking for somewhere with sea views and that has a more calm and relaxing vibe (the reason for staying outside Ponta Delgada), but would still like a town or beach area to walk around. We will have a rental car and will be spending most of the day time exploring the island, but want to have local options to go have dinner and drinks at night so we don’t have to fully rely on driving.Lagoa and Vila Franca both seem similar in size and offerings, and I like that they’re both relatively central on the island. Wondering if anyone has advice or suggestions on one or the other?OR! Maybe I’ve completely overlooked another village on the island that fits what we’re looking for, in which case I’d be interested to hear about that as well. Thanks! via /r/azores https://ift.tt/2NDeKBy
