Lisboa Architecture Walks & Trips is a Lisbon-based independent agency, owned by a Portuguese architect - Margarida Borges, specialized in organizing architecture tours, group trips and events. "There are many ways to discover Lisbon… my focus is the city's architectural lines as key for the city's urban development. I look into the headlines and the footnotes and I am as interested in the eye-cat

ching constructions as the ones of everyday life. Lisbon is going
through a process of urban regeneration and I’m also exploring how these works take place in real time".

WHERE ARCHITECTURE MEETS LANDSCAPE
Touring in the mountainous region of the Beiras, the interior of Portugal, we were caught up by the beauty of this remarkable construction, adding even more attractiveness to an already stunning landscape.

All over Portugal there is remarkable contemporary architecture, and it is outside the big cities the architects have created some of the most surprising constructions. The pedestrian bridge over the Carpinteira valley by J. L. Carrilho da Graça in Covilhã is a masterpiece.

Covilhã is a medium-sized Portuguese city at the foothills of the Serra da estrela, the highest mountain in continental Portugal, covered by snow during the winter.
The topography is very rugged and the city was recently subjected to a mobility plan that has made the lives of citizens and visitors more easy, inclusive and pleasant. The bridge was designed as part of this major plan and extends along 220 meters linking the (former peripheral) neighborhood of Penedos Altos with the city centre.

Seen from afar, the construction is as elegant as a serpentine, curving at the ends where it grabs the ground. Walking across the bridge deck is a unique experience. Day and night and in both directions, it offers dazzling perspectives on the landscape along the way.

A very carefully proportioned construction that unites strength, utility and beauty. An exceptional project that puts Covilhã at the top of the already long itinerary of Portuguese contemporary architecture.

Cheira bem, cheira a Lisboa!
(EN) Portugal Day is celebrated today in Belém. The official celebrations took place in the Jerónimos Monastery and the MAAT museum reopens its doors to the public, with cheerful and smelly basil.
Recovering from the shock of the pandemic, Lisbon comes back to life, different, calmer, but always brightened by the reflection of the sunshine on the river, the sidewalks and the very white architecture.
Cheira bem, cheira a Lisboa! (Smells good, smells like Lisbon!)

Cheira bem, cheira a Lisboa!

(EN) after embarking on this lonelier voyage and a time in stand by...we (re)start our blog posts.
It begins as follows: Why do we like cities? What do we like about cities? Why do cities attract us?
"First of all, it is clear that the CITY is a collective territory, conformed to allow life in common. Many different people sharing, dividing, using a huge structure, built together (...) a project of collective life".
It just so happens, that this kind of public, collective territory, full of unpredictability is threatening (us) in times of pandemic. We are told that everything we like about cities, is what we should fear and avoid. The CITY is in crisis and all the theories and urban reforms seem now obsolete to us.

Since we are all in the same boat, let us now embark on this lonelier voyage, so we can reach a good port and enjoy again the unpredictability and multiplicity of relationships that life in the CITY entail.

EN) Guided visit to the Estufa Fria with the architect J. P. Falcão de Campos, organized by the Garagem Sul, as part of the exhibition Architecture and Agriculture: taking the country’s side.
The intervention by Falcão de Campos (2009-13) restored the shading structure surrounding the green house which was in risk of collapsing - it focused on the construction of a new, taller and more robust metal structure, the restoration and replacement of the wooden slatted panels. The project valued the quality of the space, the interior environment and enhanced the possibility of connecting the greenhouse to the surrounding park via the upper level.
A very informative guided visit!

The civic movement has joined 24 architects (including Souto de Moura, Siza Vieira and Carrilho da Graça) signing a manifesto against the ongoing construction of the new bridge over the Gilão River in Tavira. We definitely support the movement. Tavira Sempre!

Tavira's architecture - of multiple influences, is unique. Tavira is the most charming town in the Eastern Algarve.
