Today The Government approved a series of changes to the rules regarding Covid-19 digital certificates, which will already indicate the booster dose. On the one hand, it is no longer necessary to present a negative test upon entry into Portugal, for those who have a certificate. On the other hand, the validity of the antigen test is reduced, which must be performed within 24 hours prior to its presentation.

“The adjustments concern access to tourist establishments or local accommodation, restaurants or similar, gambling establishments, casinos, bingos or similar, events, access to gyms and gyms, and entry into national territory, ending , in the latter case, the requirement to present proof of testing with a negative result for those who present the EU Covid Digital Certificate in any of its modalities or other proof of vaccination that has been recognized ”, reads the statement from the Council of Ministers this Thursday.
As for the validity of antigen tests, “ it is now required that they be performed within the previous 24 hours with a negative result (instead of the previous 48 hours)”. With this change, the digital certificate in the testing modality also only attests to a rapid antigen test carried out in the last 24 hours, with a negative result.

In addition Portugal has now aligned with the EU regarding the Digital Vaccination certificate and it will now show a validity of 270 days.

DGS has now made available the Self Scheduling of those 33 years of age and over who are resident in Portugal.
The process is the same for the previous age groups which started with the 65s and over on 23rd April 2021

DECREE 36-A/2021 EXTENSION OF THE LAW CONCERNING WEARING OF MASKS OUTDOORS PUBLISHED

The above law was published on 14th June 2021 extending the wearing of masks outdoors for a period of 90 days.

This extends earlier extensions of Law 62-A/2020 of 27th October, which states:

1 - It is mandatory for people aged 10 and over to wear a mask for access, circulation or permanence in public spaces and streets whenever the physical distance recommended by the health authorities proves impractical.

2 - The requirement referred to in the previous number is waived:

a) Upon presentation:

i) A medical certificate of multipurpose incapacity or medical declaration, in the case of people with cognitive, developmental and mental disorders;

ii) A medical statement attesting that the person's clinical condition is not consistent with the use of masks;

b) When the use of a mask is incompatible with the nature of the activities that people are carrying out;

c) In relation to people who are part of the same household, when they are not in the vicinity of third parties.

RULES UPDATED FOR ARRIVALS BY AIR TO PORTUGAL FROM 15 JUNE 2021
The big change on Despacho n.º 5848-B/2021 is on “n5 - Allow non-essential travel to and from the United States of America.”
The order takes effect from 00:00 on June 15, 2021 and until 23:59 on June 27, 2021, and may be revised at any time, depending on the evolution of the epidemiological situation.

Under the Resolution of the Council of Ministers no. 74-A/2021 that on Article 20 - Air traffic testing rules n1 – Airlines should only allow passengers to board flights with destination or stopover in mainland Portugal upon presentation, at the time of departure, of proof of laboratory performance of nucleic acid amplification test (TAAN) or rapid test of antigen (TRAg) to screen for SARS-CoV-2 infection with a negative result, carried out within 72 or 24 hours prior to boarding, respectively, with the airlines being responsible for verifying the existence of said test at the time of departure, without prejudice random verification, upon arrival in mainland national territory, by the Public Security Police or the Immigration and Borders Service (SEF).

Arrivals from EU/Schengen areas and the UK are allowed to enter and certain safe third countries are allowed to enter for any reason. All other countries are for essential reasons only. Essential Trips, considering as such those carried out for professional, study, family reunion reasons, for health reasons or for humanitarian reasons.

Anyone arriving from South Africa, Brazil, India or Nepal or with a stay in the 14 days prior to their arrival in Portugal, must quarantine for 14 days from their arrival, besides presenting a negative test.

✈️ PORTUGAL LIFTS BAN ON NON-ESSENTIAL TRAVEL FROM UK

The Portuguese government has announced it will lift its ban on non-essential travel from the UK on 17 May. Travel abroad is now different. You must check what you need to do to enter any country, even if it’s on the ‘Green List’. A negative PCR test is required for entry to any part of Portugal. Fully vaccinated travellers to Madeira may also present complete NHS vaccine certificates as a condition of entry instead of a negative PCR test.
Travellers will be required to show a negative PCR test result for COVID-19 taken within 72 hours of departure (not required for children aged 2 or under). Your airline is likely to deny boarding if you cannot provide evidence of a negative PCR test at check-in. Check with your airline before you travel.
Before travelling to Portugal, visitors from England and Scotland should ensure they (i) have more than six months validity left on their passports and (ii) take out comprehensive travel insurance, including cover for COVID-related issues. Towards the end of their holiday in Portugal, travellers must also take a pre-departure COVID test within 72 hours before returning to England or Scotland.
