Celebrating Portugal here in the USA with our special client Port glasses. I picked this wine up at Panescal in February on my first visit to Fonseca with Miguel Leal.

Fonseca Guimaraens 1987 Vintage Port (half)
Open 2 days and finally mellowed out, this was intense and quite sharp and in need of a chill and decant.
Nose and palate of ripe cherries, red licorice, milk chocolate, cinnamon sticks and caramel. A little heat, even with a chill, is still noticeable, but the rest of the wine has risen up to bring it back into more balance. The tannin is ripe, fine and silky at this stage.

Corgo River, Regua, Douro Valley 🇵🇹
At the center of this photo is the Corgo River entering the Douro River just east of the village of Regua. The Corgo River forms the important border between Baixo (low) and Cima (top) Corgo. The Douro Valley is split into 3 zones west to east:
(1) Baixo Corgo
(2) Cima Corgo
(3) Douro Superior
The second most important village in the is , some might even say it is the most important. Depicted here is its eastern edge, where important highways intersect, and the all important train bridge of the train line that forever advanced development further into the Douro Valley over a century ago.
