In Portugal, Christmas is a time for festive and elaborate meals, and the exact dishes can vary based on regional traditions and family preferences. However, there are some common elements in Portuguese Christmas cuisine. Here are a few traditional dishes that are often enjoyed during the Christmas season and can’t missed in our Christmas tables 🫣:

Bacalhau (Salted Cod): Bacalhau is a staple in Portuguese cuisine, and it often takes center stage during Christmas.

Polvo à Lagareiro (Octopus): Octopus is another popular seafood dish served during Christmas, especially in the north of Portugal. Polvo à Lagareiro involves roasting octopus with garlic and olive oil until it becomes tender and flavorful.

Rabanadas: Similar to French toast, rabanadas are a popular Christmas dessert in Portugal. Slices of bread are soaked in milk, egg, and sugar, then fried until golden. They are often flavored with cinnamon and sugar and may be drizzled with honey or sprinkled with powdered sugar.

Bolo Rei (King Cake): Bolo Rei is a traditional Portuguese Christmas cake that is often enjoyed during the holiday season. It is a sweet, round cake filled with nuts and dried fruits, and it may be topped with powdered sugar. It sometimes contains a small gift or a fava bean, and the person who finds it is considered lucky.

Filhós: Filhós are deep-fried doughnuts or fritters that are enjoyed during the Christmas season. They can be plain or filled with jam and are often dusted with sugar.

Anyone who knows us knows that besides being foodies, we’re huge football fans.

Put those together and you have a clear win in our books!
Our hearts belong to Benfica, and this restaurant is all about honouring the club, while having its own identity.

Zé Pinto is an amazing REAL tasca, where the menu is hand written, the food is served in metal trays, and the staff treats you like family.

If you’re football fans, we strongly advise you to go there on the way to a Benfica game.
Otherwise, if you’re Porto supporters, it’s okay if you unsubscribe, we get it.
