Qatar ranks third in employment of GCC nationals.

Qatar ranks third in the region in employment of GCC nationals with 2,284 citizens of other Gulf states working in the country in 2013, according to figures released by the GCC general secretariat. Of these, 792 were employed in the private sector while 1.492 were working in government jobs. Overall, 35,000 Gulf nationals were working in countries in the region not their own with around 50 percent employed in the private sector. Kuwait accounted for the lion’s share of employment of GCC nationals with 22,500, of whom 12.500 were working in the private sector and the rest held government jobs. In 2004, 13,000 Gulf nationals were employed in the private sector in countries not their own, a figure which rose a mere 29 percent in 2013, the data showed. However, there was a major rise to 17,658 employed in the government sector in 2013 from the 9,000 in 2004. Sixty-five percent were employed in Kuwait, followed by the UAE (6,000 GCC nationals), Qatar’s 1,492, followed by Bahrain with 99, Oman (44) and Saudi Arabia (23). Qatar population jumps more than 10% in 2014

Qatar's population grew by more than 10% last year, fuelled by the country's massive spending on infrastructure projects, figures released on Wednesday showed.

The Qatar National Bank (QNB), in its monthly monitor report, said the number of people moving to live in the Gulf state rose by 10.1% during 2014.

The QNB said the growth reflected the "large influx of expatriate workers filling the 120,000 new jobs created in Qatar each year".

Around 2.2mn people live in Qatar, with some 90% of the population made up of people from overseas.

Last year's was the highest growth rate since 2010, when the population jumped by more than 11%.

From 2011 to 2013, Qatar's population grew at an annual average rate of around 7%.

The tens of thousands of new jobs being created each year reflect the huge investment in infrastructure by Qatar.

This will not change despite the recent fall in oil prices.

Qatari Finance Minister HE Ali Sherif al-Emadi said recently that around $200bn (175bn euros) had been approved for projects including developing the country's railway network and building a new port in the runup to the football World Cup, which it will host in 2022.

Regional business intelligence specialist, MEED, has predicted that Qatar will see $30bn worth of new infrastructure projects through 2015.
