What is the first and most important thing that flight attendants do when they board the aircraft?
Today we were thrilled to welcome to the EL AL family the fourth 787-8 Dreamliner, which bears the name of the city "Nof HaGalil" and joins the Dreamliner fleet, currently comprised of 16 aircraft,
twelve 787-9 and four 787-8.
The aircraft offers three service classes: Business, Premium and Economy and will be used for long-haul flights to destinations in North America, Europe and the Far East.
We received the aircraft with a traditional water salute ceremony at Ben Gurion Airport after a direct flight from Boeing's factories in Seattle and the excitement was twofold, since in addition to receiving the aircraft, this is also EL AL's first flight using sustainable fuel (SAF).
In doing so, we position ourselves at the forefront of global airlines in terms of sustainability and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
SAF fuel, which emits less carbon into the atmosphere in the production process because the carbon is extracted from the air, accounted for about 30% of the fuel consumption on this flight, a percentage considered relatively high compared to the norm in the world.
The arrival is part of our strategic plan to expand and rejuvenate our fleet, with the new fleet offering an upgraded flight experience and enabling higher fuel efficiency.
We prepared an exciting surprise for Noa Kirel, our representative to the Eurovision Song Contest!
Noa arrived for a special visit at the EL AL headquarters offices where the highlight was a big and exciting surprise waiting for the singer- A unique special unicorn sticker was glued on the aircraft that will fly the Eurovision delegation to Liverpool towards the end of April.
This was a complex process that took 4 weeks and involved dozens of people.
The unique sticker itself is custom-made to fit the aircraft exterior and must meet several conditions:
High speed durability, withstand extreme temperature differences between the ground and cruising altitude, made from special materials so it won’t interfere with aerodynamic flow and so on.
EL AL engineers had special and precise blueprints premade to ensure that the sticker is compatible with the aircraft body.
The special sticker pasting involved a modified glue and the delegated area on the aircraft was cleaned with special materials so that dirt and debris won’t stick to the glue.

Ever wondered what a water salute is?
It's a traditional salute for a significant event in the aeronautic world. The ceremony involves water being sprayed on the aircraft by several fire fighting vehicles.
The ceremony is conducted, for example, for a captain’s last flight before retiring.
What happens under the plane after the Jet bridge ("sleeve") is detached?
The plane is being pushed utilizing a pushback vehicle to the allocated engine-starting position.
While it is towed, wing walkers follow the wing tips to ensure that the plane's path is clear.
Upon arriving at the allocated engine-starting position, the towing vehicle disconnects itself from the plane, enabling the pilots – coordinating with the towing supervisor – to start the engines.
The towing supervisor than removes the safety pin and thus returns control of the plane's steering system to the pilots.
Finally, the towing supervisor signals to the pilots that the safety pin has been removed and the aircraft is cleared for taxi.
