Today we were thrilled to welcome to the EL AL family the fourth 787-8 Dreamliner, which bears the name of the city "Nof HaGalil" and joins the Dreamliner fleet, currently comprised of 16 aircraft,
twelve 787-9 and four 787-8.
The aircraft offers three service classes: Business, Premium and Economy and will be used for long-haul flights to destinations in North America, Europe and the Far East.
We received the aircraft with a traditional water salute ceremony at Ben Gurion Airport after a direct flight from Boeing's factories in Seattle and the excitement was twofold, since in addition to receiving the aircraft, this is also EL AL's first flight using sustainable fuel (SAF).
In doing so, we position ourselves at the forefront of global airlines in terms of sustainability and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
SAF fuel, which emits less carbon into the atmosphere in the production process because the carbon is extracted from the air, accounted for about 30% of the fuel consumption on this flight, a percentage considered relatively high compared to the norm in the world.
The arrival is part of our strategic plan to expand and rejuvenate our fleet, with the new fleet offering an upgraded flight experience and enabling higher fuel efficiency.

After conquering every possible stage in Israel, it’s time for Noa Kirel to dominate the Eurovision stage.

With the grand competition around the corner, here are some things you should know about the Unicorn song representing Israel:

The writing of the song took three intense sessions spread over three days.

Even before the song was officially released, it was already ranked on the official Eurovision website’s top 10 Eurovision songs for this year’s contest .

In March 2023, the song was ranked first place in YouTube views in Ukraine- last year’s Eurovision winners.

The official Unicorn videoclip was filmed in Poland.

Doron Madali himself was amidst a world-wide trip when he got the call from Noa Kirel. He didn’t think twice before returning immediately to Israel and wrote the hit (he also wrote the Israeli Eurovision winning song ‘TOY’).

Iconic Jewish elements such as violins were incorporated into the song.

EL AL flew the Israeli delegation, led by Noa to the Eurovision held in Liverpool. The aircraft exterior was decorated with a special sticker with the caption: “GOOD LUCK Noa KirEL PhenomenAL”

Don’t forget, you have the power to make a difference! Vote #9 for our Noa Kirel and help her get 12 points 😊

We prepared an exciting surprise for Noa Kirel, our representative to the Eurovision Song Contest!

Noa arrived for a special visit at the EL AL headquarters offices where the highlight was a big and exciting surprise waiting for the singer- A unique special unicorn sticker was glued on the aircraft that will fly the Eurovision delegation to Liverpool towards the end of April.

This was a complex process that took 4 weeks and involved dozens of people.

The unique sticker itself is custom-made to fit the aircraft exterior and must meet several conditions:

High speed durability, withstand extreme temperature differences between the ground and cruising altitude, made from special materials so it won’t interfere with aerodynamic flow and so on.

EL AL engineers had special and precise blueprints premade to ensure that the sticker is compatible with the aircraft body.

The special sticker pasting involved a modified glue and the delegated area on the aircraft was cleaned with special materials so that dirt and debris won’t stick to the glue.

It's true, looking down at the stunning view from high above is indeed spectacular, and you just can’t get enough of it… but there's more to it all.

For us, the airplane window is not just a "window", but rather an icon that symbolizes the connection between the outdoors and indoors, between being home or on vacation, between what’s safe and familiar and your next adventure. 17/02/2023

About two and a half years ago, the Boeing Company announced the cease of the 747 aircraft (also known as the "Queen of the Skies) production.

This week the company permanently closed the plane's production line and delivered the last 747 aircraft it has produced.

The Boeing 747 was decommissioned from EL AL's fleet at the end of 2019.

The final goodbye was said at the end of 2020 when the last remaining model was scrapped. It truly was the end of an era.

Our story began sometime in the 1960s when Boeing started designing the world's first wide-body commercial airplane, which had two aisles in the tourist class and a capacity of 350-400 passengers. The state of Israel purchased the plane for approximately 31-35 million dollars for its national airline. The Jumbo's length was over 70 meters, its wingspan was 59 meters long, and its tail stood 19 meters high.

The very first plane arrived on May 26th, 1971. EL AL invested 200 million dollars (equivalent to a billion dollars nowadays) on infrastructure, preparations, and equipment. The Jumbo's first flight took place on June 8th from Tel Aviv to New York, with a layover in London. Welcoming The plane into our fleet also marked the pioneering use of onboard entertainment systems.

On November 22nd of the same year, the second 747-200 arrived at EL AL, and thus, the company doubled its seat supply in a fleet that, at the time, included 12 aircraft. The occupancy rate soared, and the number of passengers rose accordingly.

The third Jumbo joined the fleet in April 1973, marking the beginning of non-stop flights to New York without stopping on the way (which had only been possible previously on the way back from the USA). In addition to the passengers onboard, each plane could carry up to 13,500 kg of cargo.

The increase in cargo demand led to purchasing of the 747 as a passenger/cargo aircraft. Later, three more 747 airplanes were purchased from Boeing. In 1995, two 747-400 aircraft joined the fleet and became EL AL's flagship aircraft.

Over the years, A total of 20 747 planes were flown in EL AL's service (some were modified to cargo usage). These planes made their way to Tehran, where EL AL flew mainly cargo, and to Los Angeles, which was EL AL's longest flight (14.5 hours). At the time, this was the longest route for a commercial flight in the world.

There's also the Guinness World Record: amidst operation Solomon, EL AL flew the largest number of passengers onboard the same flight. This flight broke the Guinness world record with 1,086 passengers who were on their way to Israel from Ethiopia as part of a complicated operation. In EL AL's publicity campaigns, it was said that, for once, comfort comes last. By the way, some claim the actual number of passengers was 1,122 because some babies were tucked under their mother's scarfs. Any which way, the number of passengers landing in Israel was greater than the number of passengers who boarded because two babies were delivered midair.

EL AL has used jumbo planes for years to transport cargo and passengers alike. In the late 90s, in addition to ordering another 747 (named Jerusalem), EL AL started negotiations for renewing and rejuvenating its fleet.

Near the end of 2019, the Jumbos were taken out of service. The last 747-400 flight was from Rome to Tel Aviv. On its way, the captain "drew" the digits 747 in the skies.

On December 2020, the last EL AL jumbo was scrapped. "The queen of the skies" retired after over 48 years of service for EL AL.

An hour-long train ride away from Tel Aviv, this historical destination awaits- Acre!

It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements on Earth. Come visit an ancient port that has been functional for centuries or see the chilling prisoners museum. Take a boat ride to see the preserved old city walls from the sailor's point of view. The city even has a secret tunnel system built by the templar Crusaders in the 12th century.

Don't forget to have some authentic hummus, Fish, and Baklava in the busy market. You can choose between several hotels and hostels to your liking and start your morning with a refreshing dip in the Mediterranean sea.

Acre, or Akko in Hebrew, is very diversified, with Jewish, Islamic, Bedouin, Christian, and Baha'i residents. All part of this beautifully intricate human mosaic. It is home to marvelous temples, synagogues, mosques, and the Bahai pilgrimage center, The Mansion of Bhaji.

So come and visit this amazing city,

This unique landform is the biggest erosion cirque in the world!

Located in the Negev desert in southern Israel, Makhtesh Ramon is 40 km long, 10 km at its widest point and 500 meters deep !it's identifiable by its distinctive elongated heart shape.

Created by prehistorical glaciers that eroded through the upper hard-stone ground level, down to softer stone levels for millions of years, this nature reserve is home to the curious Nubian ibex, Gazelles, the onager which is a reddish Asiatic wild ass, foxes, camels, honey badgers, flacons and many more. The Ramon crater is near the town Mitzpe Ramon, which translates to the Ramon observatory and has many accommodation options, from high-end luxurious hotels to equipped glamping sites. Let your extreme side shine as you hike through this wondrous desert. You can also visit the space and nature visitor center which is also a memorial center for the Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon.

In 2017 this area was recognized as a starlight reserve due to the substantially low light pollution levels. It is the perfect spot for you. Just imagine your tent swaying in the wind, Ibexes hopping between the narrow and steep cliffs, coffee is brewing on your campfire and countless stars shining above…

anything seems possible when you become one with nature.

Come find you peaceful center, or crater. Were sure you will end up rating it with a million star review!

It's a traditional salute for a significant event in the aeronautic world. The ceremony involves water being sprayed on the aircraft by several fire fighting vehicles.

The ceremony is conducted, for example, for a captain’s last flight before retiring.

SNOW IN THE DESERT?

Many think of desert dunes and sunny beaches when they think of Israel, but we truly have it all!

Did you know about Israel's amazing ski resort?

Located in a narrow but mighty ridge up in the northern part of the country, is Mount Hermon- with a mountain peak measuring 2,814 meters high.

There's no wonder this is the snowiest area in the nation.

Speaking of snow, it takes the water over two years to melt and trickle down the rocky earth until they spring and flow into streams such as the Baniyas, Elal, and eventually the Jordan river.

This topographical process is called karst, in which stones are worn down by trickling water in under-ground natural drainage.

This professional ski resort offers equipment rental, many restaurants, B&B's and its very own cable car that runs all year long!

When you visit, be sure to look for the sea of galilee glistening from the valley below.

So don't miss this fantastic site, filled with national parks, clear streams, and extreme activities such as jeep tours all along the ridge.

Israel, your winter wonderland.

Selecting seats on your flight?

We've noticed that most passengers select seats shortly before departure or just at the check-in option and thus, seat availability changes as the flight date approaches.

It's important to know that you can actually reserve seats one year prior to the flight date.

This will provide you with a wide choice of seating options and you can board your flight with peace of mind.

You can do this by entering the seat selection screen at the booking management option on the EL AL website or App.

So, feel free to log in, choose your preferred seats of those available and have a pleasant flight!

What happens under the plane after the Jet bridge ("sleeve") is detached?

The plane is being pushed utilizing a pushback vehicle to the allocated engine-starting position.

While it is towed, wing walkers follow the wing tips to ensure that the plane's path is clear.

Upon arriving at the allocated engine-starting position, the towing vehicle disconnects itself from the plane, enabling the pilots – coordinating with the towing supervisor – to start the engines.

The towing supervisor than removes the safety pin and thus returns control of the plane's steering system to the pilots.

Finally, the towing supervisor signals to the pilots that the safety pin has been removed and the aircraft is cleared for taxi.
