Autumn and winter are a great time to try your luck seeing some of the many mammals that live in the Hartibaciu Valley. Without the need to hold a territory and with food resources starting to get scarce, animals need to move greater distances and perhaps closer to human disturbed areas to find sufficient food. Wolves and lynx also move huge distances in winter and spend relatively more time down in the lowlands. Even if you aren't lucky enough to spot some of the rarer, secretive mammals, there are an abundance of more common species such as roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) as pictured here. Also seen in the last two days: European wildcat (Felis silvestris), European badger (Meles meles), golden jackal (Canis aureus) and red fox (Vulpes vulpes).
