Hidden habsburgic compounds in Sibiu (Hermannstadt), Romania.
What could be more intriguing than discovering hidden gems of the Habsburgs in Sibiu?
Do you know that Sibiu (and Transylvania) was part of the Habsburg Empire? You wouldn't say that while strolling the city center - which is highly medieval, but when you read the history and search for different kind of interventions (which I show during my guided tours), you can easily discover and understand the cultural impact that the Habsburgs had on the architecture in Sibiu. Not only that you can understand how those Baroque buildings appeared here and there, but you will also discover hidden gems - palaces and residences, monasteries and churches, something you'd never have thought of.
To these days, Sibiu has preserved most of the Habsburg neighborhoods in addition to Baroque (and Roccoco) decors, fortification extensions, new bastions, and cosy courtyards. Of course, some of them were refurbished and changed their function. But the truth is that they haven't completely lost their old look; they've rather received a new function and buildings of the Habsburgs can be seen nowadays (if you know where to look for them). So, history aficionados, Sibiu is waiting for you to explore it's hidden past and old architecture.
If you are a history lover and enjoy to discover hidden places, let me know, and we can set up a city tour.
