Russia’s main TV channel showed yesterday all 4 BBC’ ‘Space Race’ docudrama series, a joint effort of UK, US, German, Russian teams.
Critics rap errors, cliches, wrong priorities, etc. Still, this ‘comparative’ analysis (however good it is) offers fresh two-sided perspective on space development. Filmed in 2005, it is ‘fresh’ as there are very few similar comparisons. It is about competition which propelled the superpowers’ development of space exploration. This poll was the only one of such a scale over the history of the USSR.
Armenia, Georgia, Baltic republics, and Moldova boycotted the poll.
In those republics where it was held, Russia (71%) and Ukraine (70%) showed the lowest approval rate, Asian republics scored highest (93-97%). And still, the Soviet Union broke up the same year. On March 9, 1934 a boy was born who would become the ‘first man in …’ (at the time of his birth very few knew the word). He became an icon. Though he was a Communist, he once denounced publicly the destruction of the Christ the Savior Cathedral in Moscow. In 2021 many ex-USSR people (and the world?) celebrate the 60 th jubilee of his endeavor. He was killed in an accident, while training for his second mission, when he was only 34. Last week RF honored M. Gorbachev on his 90 th birthday, the only President of the USSR; the last (and probably the only) communist so much respected in the West. If you wish to read our inclusive interview with Michael Gorbachev, pls. like this post so that we see there is interest.
I met Mr. Gorbachev 3 times in my life.
1) When PRAVDA (the Truth), the main Soviet paper, celebrated its birthday in 1980-s and Michael Gorbachev arrived to greet the public at VDNKh, one of the Soviet oases in Moscow. I was in the crowd far away.
2) At his speech at Harvard in 2003, when his entrance to the stage was greeted with a standing ovation. This time I was much closer, in the first rows.
3) At the honorary reception held by Gorbachev Foundation North America (where I was an intern) later that week, when I shook Mr. President’s hand.

This is the full and beautiful version of the 3-min. prayer, as the previous was cut to 1,5 min for our FB page cover.
This heavenly melody was written by Grigory Grigoriev, a musician, tenor, conductor and, most importantly a composer. He kindly approved our usage of his music. We consider it the most impressive contemporary (21 c.) spiritual music in Russia and aim to make it known all over the world. Hence we will use it as much as possible in our videos.

Grigory earned his living, inter alia, with singing in church choirs which has become no longer possible after covid 19 pandemic started and especially after he was affected with corona virus himself and, fortunately, recovered. Still, the time for live church choirs hasn't come back. It's sad how the pandemic can nullify jobs (even multiple) of a musician if they are not on a payroll.

Sometimes you live and wish to have lived in the same time when a composer lived (e.g. Allegri who wrote Misere Mei Deus) to be able to thank the creator. If you enjoyed the music as much as we, pls write “Thank you” to Grigory via his FB or make a small donation of appreciation via his PayPal [email protected] (importantly, “as a friend”).

“Lend your helping hand” is a line from this prayer to the Mother of God.

If we see you love the melody as much as we do, we will translate it into English.

7 Days That Didn’t Shake The World. On June 25 – July 1 Russia is voting on the amendments to its Constitution. Inter alia, it will let the incumbent stay in office for another 16 yrs, after 20.

Have you been to any other country with such public administration efficiency & veteran president? Isn’t this another reason to in addition to many other reasons ( ) to have a or to ( esp ) & many other places incl. on the façade of which this video mapping was performed by Moscow-based team ‘Screen Blasters’ http://screen-blasters.com in 2019 ?

New NORMAL ?
On March 25 2020, a “week off” was announced in Russia, which was the first time period for covid19-related isolation. That ‘week’ was then followed again and again by new ones. The vid shows how empty the Dept Store at was on that eve. That is the place quite popular among shoppers, tourists and passersby. It only re-opened in early June.
In those 2 mo. lots of things became normal: for weeks, rigorous washing products and clothes at home after shopping, no handshakes, eating garlic 3-4 times a day, waiting for weeks for answers from people (and not getting ones) and so on. How have we got accustomed to this, so that it became normal? And when will it normalize?
