SKI DESCENT FROM THE TOP OF ELBRUS

Sometimes clients ask: is it possible to ski or snowboard down from the Elbrus summit?

Yes, it is! But you need to consider a few things:

• Season. The best snow conditions for skiing up/down Elbrus are from April to mid-June.
• Skiing level. You must have a very good level of skiing/snowboarding and physical fitness, so that after a long climb you have the strength to go down on skis/ snowboard.
• Individual guide. On the summit day, you will need an individual ski guide for a safe descent.
• Be prepared to drag your equipment to the top before it brings you down.

WHICH ROUTE TO CHOOSE? - Part 3
The TRAVERSE ROUTE from north to south is probably the most interesting way to climb Mount Elbrus!

Both the southern and northern sides of Elbrus are beautiful in their own way. Both have a unique atmosphere and completely different landscapes.
To see and combine this in one day is worth a lot and only a few are lucky enough to do so.

Another non-obvious advantage of the traverse route is that when climbing from the north without using ski lifts and snow-cats, you get used to not expecting any quick solutions.
And what an unexpected and pleasant discovery awaits those who made an ascent  from the north: on the southern side of Elbrus, only a couple of hours on a snowcat and a lift separate you from a hot shower and cold beer! The contrasts add zest!

WHICH ROUTE TO CHOOSE? - Part 2
The north route is much closer to nature if compare to the south one. There are no hotels, restaurants, ski lifts or snow-cats. But there are several powerful waterfalls, many mineral springs and unique landscapes.

This is a real climb, as you walk the entire distance to the summit on foot, without using cable cars or snow-cats. There are porter services available though.

The technical difficulty of the route is the same as when you climb from the south side. But due to the fact that there are no vehicles here, the route is less popular. And therefore there are much less crowds, which is an undeniable advantage of the route!

WHICH ROUTE TO CHOOSE?
The south route is the most popular one. It is the fastest and the most popular way to climb Mt. Elbrus.

There are ski lifts to bring you from the valley straight up to the hut at 3800 m. On the summit day most groups ride a snow-cat up to 5100 m. And also use it for descent. So, the real climb takes not much time on the summit day.

The main disadvantage of the southern route is that it is very busy. This summer there were a lot of climbers, hotels and huts were overcrowded, and there was a lot of dirt on the route.

Next time we will tell you about pros and contrast of climbing Elbrus via the north route.

CLIMBING ELBRUS IN AUTUMN
Pros:
✅ Almost no people on the route, at huts and hotels
✅ Flights are cheaper
✅ Autumn looks beautiful in the mountains

Contras:
❗It is colder and more snow
❗Not all huts operate in autumn
❗Sometimes there is just a couple of people to attempt the summit on a certain day. So there can be issues with snow-cats, which can be resolved though.

In general, autumn is still a good time to climb Elbrus. Weather is always unpredictable and changeable, also in summer. Of course, it is colder in autumn but still not too cold.

Do you have experience climbing high mountains outside the high season?

Tours on Elbrus in 2024 will go!

We want to please mountain lovers that Elbrus is accessible to travelers from all countries! There are no entry restrictions, visas are issued as usual. This year, an online visa system to Russia was launched, which is available to citizens of 55 countries. You can find more about the procedure for submitting applications on-line and the list of countries here https://electronic-visa.kdmid.ru/index_en.html.

The best place to search and book flights is search.jetradar.com. This website shows flights operated by the Russian airlines (which are cheaper). Others don't show flights of the Russian companies due to the sanctions. There are direct flights from Istanbul and Dubai to Mineralnye Vody.

You can get travel insurance online by the Russian insurance company https://saveprolife.ru/. It covers mountain rescue works and is valid for the visa application as well.

If you have other questions about arranging the tour to Elbrus, contact us in Direct or on Whatsapp +79269247948.

WHAT WILL HELP YOU TO CLIMB TO THE TOP OF ELBRUS?
Weather? - Yes!
The right equipment? - Yes!
Good physical form? - Yes!
There is another secret - this is the pace!

Those who have climbed Kilimanjaro have probably heard the words pole-pole from their guides. In Swahili it means slowly, slowly. The quieter you go, the further you'll get. When applied to mountain climbing, this saying works 100%!

You need to go up a little slower than you need to, so as not to lose your breath. And then you won't even need rest stops.

Of course, in a group ascent, the organization of the tour and the work of the guides are important. All clients go at different pace, and the more guides in the group, the more comfortable it is and the greater the chance that everyone will reach the top.

It is important that a guide is willing to be patient and is ready for a long climb if the participant is walking very slowly. We had a case where a lady from Morocco was significantly slower than everyone else in the group. This became obvious on the day of acclimatization to the Pastukhov rocks. She had the strength to climb to the top, but walked very-very slowly. She was given an individual guide. He later admitted that he managed to sleep while they reached the top. But she got up!

Ideally, you should consider taking a personal guide if you walk very slowly or vice versa - quickly. If your pace is high, you will freeze while waiting for the others. If you're a slow-walker, you'll be stressed, feeling behind and trying to catch up.

Have you ever...?

How long has it been since you allowed yourself to be alone with yourself? Put aside the energy-consuming role of a parent for a while, throw off the housewife's apron, the specialist's jacket and breathe out for a week, be out of any roles and the stress caused by them.

Have you ever been to the mountains? Then you know that special feeling of being in the midst of natural power.

Have you ever walked for pleasure for many hours? Then you have the experience of that pleasant bodily fatigue and silence in the head that comes at the end.

Have you ever looked at the dark sky above the mountains? Then you remember that nowhere will you see at the same time so much space above your head and so many stars that it seems impossible to comprehend with your consciousness.

Have you ever sat by the fire with friends, sipping tea, leisurely sharing your experiences? Then you understand how important it is to talk through what is happening to you in order to make room for new experience of the next day.

Recent events show how fragile and easily destroyed everything in life is...

When will we have another chance to get out of everyday's life for a week like this, if not now? There is very little time left before the start of the climbing season. Mountains, views, smells, tastes, trips around, and most importantly - good company. A whole separate little life. Join us!
