The route originates at an altitude of 1350 m above sea level (you need to walk about 200 meters to the start site on foot), the end point is at an altitude of 1170 m, and its length is about 1.6 km. In the upper part there are gentle sections, so immediately after the start try not to slow down to skip them. Or you can walk up to 50 meters and start from there in order to gain speed. The second half of the route (along the Chalet ski lift) is quite fast, you can accelerate very well on it. We have so far managed to develop a speed of only 57km per hour, but this is not the limit! Before skiing, the slope is spent, so the track is perfectly flat, there are no bumps on it.

When braking, try not to put your legs forward and not to brake with your heels — as your whole face will immediately be covered with snow.

The skiing in Sochi's resorts is varied and more terrain is set to be unveiled over the next two seasons. There is ample beginner skiing in Gazprom, though the instructors level of English isn't up to that of most French and Austrian resorts. For beginners a short flight to the Alps or Pyrenees may be more appropriate. For intermediate to advanced skiers there is plenty of terrain for a week or short break ski trip. Gazprom and Rosa Khotar both offer amble red and blue runs and around 1,700m of vertical drop, while Rosa Khotar also offers some more taxing advanced skiing. The huge snowfall records of the Caucasus Mountains — which is similar to that of Canada and the USA — means there is plenty of scope for some great off-piste skiing — though taking a guide is essential.

Zipline at Skypark is a breathtaking flight at an altitude of 200 meters on one side of the gorge to the other under the action of gravity. Unhurried downhill without free fall and magnificent views will allow you to fully enjoy the unique beauty and elegance Akhshtyr canyon bird's-eye view. ZipLine is part of a new circular route Skypark. Now, after passing a suspended footbridge skybridge, not necessarily to go through it again. Return to the entrance to the park will be in flight from one edge of the gorge to the other directly to the bar of the new restaurant. ZipLine one of the most affordable high-altitude rides and at the price and on the threshold of overcoming fear. There is no free fall like bungee jumping or have SochiSwing swing. Rafting is the kind of outdoor adventure that thrives in Sochi thanks to the abundance of turbulent mountain rivers. Rafting is so popular you are unlikely to find a local tour agency that does not offer it. Sochi’s largest rivers, the Mzymta and the Shakhe, with their rapids and sandbars, are considered the best for rafting. Rafting tours are available from May through October. One does not need special physical training to go on a rafting trip. Experienced local guides will give you all the requisite gear, including a life-vest, and will instruct you in safety procedures. One of the “classic” routes is on the River Mzymta, incepting in the Akh-tsu Gorge. It is seven kilometers long and takes an hour. A combination of various rafting races with beautiful and even mysterious places of Sochi will energize you and leave you with lots of positive emotions!

Flyboard / Hoverboard (or also known somewhere as a Water Jetlev) is a crazy and fantastic flying board device for fans of extreme summer entertainment and recreation. It allows you to hover over the water, dive, and surf, as well as perform acrobatic stunts powered by a water motorcycle (hydro cycle, or Jetski) that cannot be performed on the ground. Flyboarding combines a mix of adrenaline parachute, snowboard, water skiing, and much more. In order not to enumerate endlessly, we advise you to try this very breathtaking unit yourself. Learning to fly a Flyboard can be incredibly fast since the principle of its control is similar to an ordinary walking. It is difficult to convey the admiration and surprise of people when you are from the water level, in a matter of seconds you rise sharply above the water to a height of 10 meters! In these moments, you can feel like a superhero or an Iron Man, hovering over amazed spectators.

Tucked between the Khosta and Matsesta rivers, Mount Akhun with a height of about 663 meters is considered as the highest littoral point of Sochi. You can visit the top of the Romanesque-like tower built in 1936, The Observation Tower, on this mountain and enjoy the panoramic view of the city including seacoast and snow-clad mountains. After exploring the area, you can mellow out in the cafe in the tower and enjoy the view from the top of the mountain.

Beaches in Sochi are its biggest drawcards, without a doubt. There is plenty of space to choose from in the 150 km coastline running along with the city. But for a better experience, you might want to opt for a seaside resort as the resorts here have privatized the beaches to provide a luxury experience to its guests. Private beaches are not crammed with people and thus provide an unforgettable experience to tourists. So, if you want to beat the heat then take a plunge into the black sea in Sochi.

Of course, the top dish is shish kabobs! No outdoor picnic in Russia is complete without kebabs: whether it be a fishing trip, a trip to the country house, or a weekend with the family at a resort. As grilling hamburgers is for Americans, kebabs are for Russia. It's almost a national idea. Kebabs can rightly be called the king of the Sochi cuisine. These cubes of meat are marinated in a special way, put on skewers and roasted on a grill over an open fire. They are a favorite dish of residents and guests of the resort. Even in the summer in 35-degree heat, kabobs are offered in every cafe, restaurant and buffet. They are different everywhere you eat them. After all, every cook has their own secret recipe for cooking kabobs. Kebobs are traditionally served with onions, herbs, fresh vegetables, lavosh, and red sauce.

Georgian style Solyanka is for those who like it hot and spicy. This nourishing, thick, hearty and flavorful soup is the second favorite after kebabs in all Sochi eating establishments. Solyanka is prepared from choice cuts of meat that are cooked for several hours, then onions, carrots, garlic, tomatos and pepper are added. Those who like spicy food can get adjika (a spicy red sauce from the Caucasus) on the side. Solyanka is best eaten with light and fresh Georgian lavash.

If you want to try traditional Russian cuisine, you must try the Kuban borsch in Sochi. Do not be alarmed if you hear that the borsch was made the day before, that is the way it should be, because it is truly delicious on the second or third day. You must add a little sour cream to your borscht. Also try some salty bacon, green onions, fragrant rye bread and, of course, 150 grams of vodka -- it's a tradition. A cold appetizer to try is kholodets (aspic) with mustard and horseradish. Be sure to give it a try if you see it on the menu.

You can order Magnolia in virtually any restaurant in Sochi. But most people have forgotten the official name of the dish, and they just call this hot appetizer "cheese balls." More than 20 years ago, the first Magnolia appeared on the menu of the Sochi Intourist restaurant thanks to one of its chefs. To this day, they remain a favorite snack of the locals to eat with beer and wine.

Khinkali is a Georgian dumpling, which originated in the Georgian mountain regions of Pshavi, Mtiuleti and Khevsureti. Varieties of khinkali spread from there across different parts of the Caucasus. In Russia they are called pelmeni, Italy, ravioli, and in Japan, gyoza. The principle is the same -- a thin piece of dough wrapped around a stuffing and boiled in salted broth. Khinkali are filled with minced beef, pepper, salt, and finely chopped green coriander. They are larger than pelmeni and are also different in that almost half of the stuffing is a strong, rich broth. Khinkali are served with tomato sauce and Tsakhton sauce (a white sauce based on sour cream, herbs, and garlic).

SOCHI, RUSSIA ~ THE BLACK SEA PEARL

Sochi, a Russian city on the Black Sea, is known as a summer beach resort and is popular as the host of the 2014 Winter Olympics. It's also notable for 20th-century neoclassical buildings such as the columned Winter Theatre.

It is the southernmost city of Russia with average temperature +10°С in Winter and +30°С in Summer. The subtropical climate, never freezing sea, natural diversity of mountain landscape of the Main Caucasian mountain range created in Sochi ideal conditions for tourism.
