The Congo at a glance
A bunch of rivers, the tropical forests, savanna grasslands, swamps and flooded forests are the ones that make Congo a teeming with life. Mountain Gorillas, Lowland Gorillas, Forest elephants and cape buffaloes among others all call this region home. There are approximately 10, 000 species of tropical plants in the DR. Congo of which 30% are unique to the region. The Endangered wildlife, including forest elephants, chimps, bonobos, and lowland and mountain gorillas inhabit the lush Rain-forests. A close to 400 species of mammals, 1,000 species of birds and 700 species of fish are also found here. www.gorillascongo.com

The Mountain Gorillas and Chimpanzees are highly susceptible to human diseases like flu and colds. If you are participating in Gorillas or Chimpanzee trek then you need to be free of any visibly contagious diseases and this is checked at the start of the trek by the Park Authorities. If they are in any doubt of your condition, they reserve the right to prevent you from continuing on the trek.
