Ever wondered why you often come across lone buffalos strolling the savannahs alone and not with the herd?
Here’s why:
These solitary giants are often older males, known as “dagga boys.” After reaching a certain age, they leave the herd, sometimes voluntarily, sometimes pushed out by younger, stronger bulls. They prefer a slower pace of life and often stick to areas with easy access to water and mud (hence "dagga," meaning mud).
While they may seem calm, dagga boys are known to be more unpredictable and aggressive, making them one of the most respected animals in the wild.
So next time you see one, know you’re in the presence of a true wilderness veteran!
