Masai Giraffe's in Akagera 🦒
Did you know that Giraffe's can run at 35 mph over short distances, and that patterns are unique to each Giraffe, like humans fingerprints.
Historically, these animals did not occur in Rwanda until 1986, when the government of Kenya 🇰🇪 donated 2 male and 4 female Masai Giraffe, which were introduced into Akagera National Park.

And what do we see before us in the lake... Hippos 🦛!
Did you know that a group of Hippos is called a bloat?
With the ability to run at 30km/h on land and canines measuring up to 50cm, these deceptively quick animals can cause a lot of damage if threatened!
However, the Hippo is a herbivore, and can consume as much as 68kg of grass during the night! That's the equivalent of an average 5'8 man!

Due to the loss of natural habitat and the actions of poachers, the Mountain Gorilla number only 1000 in the wild. These magnificent animals now only live in Rwanda (Volcanoes National Park) , The Democratic Republic of Congo (Virunga National Park) , and Uganda (Mgahinga).
However, populations are thankfully beginning to increase due to the efforts of conservation in these areas, and there is hope for the future.
