The Håverud Aqueduct in Sweden is a unique engineering marvel located on the Dalsland Canal. Completed between 1864 and 1868, the aqueduct was designed by Nils Ericson, a renowned engineer. It was constructed as a solution to the challenging terrain in Håverud, where the steep cliffs and strong currents made a traditional lock system impractical. The aqueduct itself is a 33.5-meter-long sheet metal trough, held together by 33,000 rivets, which has never needed repairs. The structure allows boats to cross over the rapids, creating a visually striking combination of a waterway, road, and railway all intersecting in one location. Today, the Håverud Aqueduct is a popular tourist destination, attracting visitors who come to witness this impressive example of 19th-century engineering.
