Tonight we are heading out to watch for the northern lights. Hopefully we will see them as clearly as on this photo. But you never know.

Holiday season means vacation for many, but we have quite busy days here at Laponia Adventures, hosting different tours. But we also had some time with family and friends, to celebrate christmas. We hope you have had a wonderful christmas!

One pair, two pair, thick or thin? We all do the sock-thing different to keep our feet as happy as possible during hikes or skitours.

Here is Mirjas go-to since many years ago, which always work in favour to her feets:

”I use a strict system with ski-socks, camp-socks and sleeping-socks when I´m out on a longer tour. When I´m skiing I have a thin liner and a medium-thick sock of wool on top of it. When we are done skiing for the day, and when I change at the camp or cabin, I will dry my ski-socks the best I can – could be inside a shelljacket or pants, between layers I´m wearing if we are out sleeping in tents. This way they will dry from my bodyheat. Sometimes I put them on top of a hot waterbottle, which also helps drying them up. Then it is time for camp-socks, which I wear during afternoon and evening, until it is time to go to bed – enter sleeping-socks! The camp-socks usually stays pretty dry. The sleeping-socks only lives in my sleeping bag and it is super important to keep them dry and never let them out on adventures. Not even if I need to p*e during the night! I keep it strict, I know, but you never now when the blizzard hits and you might need to stay another night out in a tent. And then you will be very happy for a dry pair of socks”

Some goodies left from the garage sale in Jokkmokk a couple of weeks ago. We have two Hilleberg tents and Lundhags ski boots that would like to find new owners.

1-Hilleberg Akto price 4500kr (used but in good condition)
2-Hilleberg Allak3 price 10800kr (almost new, only used a few nights)
3-Lundhags Abisko 2 storlek 43 price 2400kr (only used on a few day tours, small in sizes)

We can mail it to you. Costumer pay the cost. Or if you would like to pick it up during the winter.

The northern lights are big but what about the full moon?

Hands up if you want to take a moment outside the tent, feeling the cold crisp air in your lungs. The moon shines still and the only thing you can hear is the quirking sounds of your footsteps in the snow. Just staying there for a while in a big puffy jacket and admire a world in total stillness, not seen so often.

Laponia Adventures have been a Nature´s Best company for three years now!

Nature´s Best is a quality labeling of companies in Sweden who work with approved eco-tourism.

This week we had a following-up with Anders from The Swedish Nature and Ecotourism association (Naturturismföretagen in swedish) to check that we keep on reaching our goals.

We are very proud to be a part of this, and to be able to offer amazing experiences in the nature while doing our best to take care of it as well.

Garage-sale in Jokkmokk, tomorrow Saturday at 11-15!

Actually we started earlier this week with our annual sale, but we still have some good outdoor stuff left!

Unfortunately we don´t have the possibility to put away stuff for later, or to send things by the post... And we also have limited possibility to answer questions on our social media or mail.

Liten utförsäljning och stor loppis i morgon tisdag kl 17-20. Finns det grejer kvar så har vi öppet samma tider även onsdag.

Vi säljer ut några Hillebergtält, uppblåsbara thermarest liggunderlag, någon inreach, termosmuggar och udda eller utgående underställ från Devold.

På loppisen hittar ni allt från kläder från Klättermusen, diverse outdoor kläder, barnkläder och skor, träningsredskap och husgeråd.

Vi har tyvärr ingen möjlighet att skicka eller lägga undan i förväg. Och vi öppnar prick 17!

Vi ses på Sågvägen 8a, Skarbrams industriområde.

Life above the arctic circle is magical, expecially during winter.

Every year we have the wintermarket in Jokkmokk, a festive celebration that gathers people from all around Sapmí and the world. In our six-days-package called Jokkmokk winter market holiday you get to stay at a comfy guesthouse, experience the buzzling market and also life and wildlife around Jokkmokk. Dogsledding, searching for the Sarek moose and of course northern lights excursions. And you get to meet Anna at Silba Siida which is pictured above, who will tell you all about the challenges and magic living in a reindeerherder family these days.

We are reday for the 420th wintermarket in Jokkmokk, if you want to join us the 2-7th or 7-12th of February, let us know! We close the booking at New years, so last chance this month!

..When the darkness gets to you, this is one of the best recipes for feeling better: Go outside, make a fire and fry up a tasty meal! Eat, relax and listen to the fire. Not every outdoor experience has to be a bucket-list thing. Sometimes you just need to remember where you came from.

Tips and tricks for sleeping in tents during winter!

We often sleep outside during our tours, as pictured here on Sarek Ski Expedition. Sleeping outside during the colder months of the year can be such a cool experience – or a nightmare... Here´s some tricks how to do it comfortably:

– Start with packing the snow where you are going to pitch your tent, by walking with mini-steps back and forth over the area. Then wait for a while for it to settle – a good time to change clothes or take a snack.

– When you are pitching the tent, aim to be as small as possible towards the windy side. And dig those tentpegs deep into the snow. We use different pegs during winter, much bigger. If you don´t want to buy them, make your own of tree sticks or wooden planks.

– Dig a hole inside the tent in the apse, so you can stand in full length there.

– Gently, without harming the fabric of the tent, put some snow on all the lower parts outside, so there is no possibility of winds catching the tent from under.

– If the wind seems to be catching up, build a wind-wall. It should be placed 2-3 meters in front of your tent. Take a shovel and cut square blocks and put them on top of each other.

– Use double sleepingmats, could be one cellfoam and one inflatable.

– Make sure you are warm and dry when you go to bed. That means, p*e, dress in a warm set of baselayer (not to much clothes, better to put the puffy jacket on top of the sleepingbag) and drink or eat something warm. Or do a little warm-up cardio jumping.

– Could be nice with a small brush to get rid of snow covering the tent in the morning.

– And keep those small ventilations open in your tent! It doesn´t get any warmeer closing everything, just more wet and damp and that is exactly what gets you cold. Not the actual cold itself.

– If it feels a bit risky, sleep near a cabin the first couple of nights while you get the hang of it.

*Support – heading out on your next big adventure but need a little help with the logistics? We can help you shop and/or prepare food, equipment and fuel and meet up with you in the nearest bus or trainstation in Gällivare or Jokkmokk, or aid you in other ways.

*Custom made tours – Although we offer a wide range of adventures both winter and summertime maybe you would like to do something different? As a family or group please let us know what your dreams are and we will take it from there.

*Storage – Send us an email if you don´t want to carry all the gear you brought for the entire trip... We have plenty of storage.
