Combining scientific knowledge and years of race experience in endurance sports, InTraining offers training schedules, coaching and nutritional advice for athletes on every level. Whether you would like to learn the basics of triathlon or set a new PB in the Ironman distance, I am happy to help you get there. I have a PhD in exercise physiology and do research on the effects of training (or lack thereof) on your genes, giving me a solid background in the latest insights on training.

Cape Epic done and dusted for Sandra and Britta!

Last week they made their way through 750 km of sun, rain, dust and wind to finish at the Meerendal wine estate that was the scene of 'our' prologue last year.

A very impressive performance ladies! Congratulations and enjoy your well-deserved medal!

Go Anna!!!!!!

Ten minutes to the start of IM Hawaii, world championships long distance triathlon (3.8 km swim, 180 km bike and 42.2 km run)

So very proud of 'my' athlete, who made it to the creme de la creme of the Swedish Ironman athletes in just one year.

A lot of talent but just as much dedication to training - as well as a healthy attitude to rest and recovery, is what brought here where she is today.

Good luck fighting dolphins, wind and heat at the Big Island!

Really, a new blog???

As long as you remember the race, one can report on it. I had obviously aimed to write these race reports much earlier, but the last few weeks and months have been more of a survival run than a recovery jog. Now the dust from moving twice (Stockholm/Wageningen–>Halmstad and again, Halmstad), from st…

Anna, Bo, Fredrik, Jason, Jeanette, Lindha, Martin and Sofia - I am so proud of you for finishing IM Kalmar, a big congratulations!!!!

And no one DNF'd! (Or DNS, for that matter)

Extra credit goes to Anna for qualifying for Hawaii with a mindblowing 10.07.59 performance, and to first time Ironman finishers Bo, Jason, Jeanette and Sofia.

You are amazing :)

One of many reasons why you don't want to take pain killers/ibuprofen (ipren) when training.

Ibuprofen blunts the chemical signals in your muscles that (should) make you stronger. But not if you take (too much) pain killers.

In this study they took 3 pills of 400mg within 24 hours.

It doesn't mean you training goes to waste if you need a pain killer, but it will decrease its effect.

Cyclooxygenase-1 and -2 pathway-derived prostaglandins (PGs) have been implicated in adaptive muscle responses to exercise, but the role of PGs in contraction-induced muscle signaling has not been determined. We investigated the effect of inhibition of cyclooxygenase-1 and -2 activities with the non…

My advice for Ironman Kalmar?

http://www.in-training.se/kalmar-ironman-advice/

Kalmar Ironman is just a few days away. Advice to competing athletes comes from all directions. My advice: don’t listen to advice. Don’t panic because it seems ‘others’ are better prepared, better organised, have better equipment and just generally, look fitter and faster. Don’t change the race pl…

Can't suppress uttering some words of proudness over 'my' athletes.

One of my novice athletes, who had not spelled 'triathlon' before January, finished a half Ironman (her first...) in 5h07mins.

Injuries happen, but 'my' athletes turn them into occasions to focus on the other disciplines (and get a lot stronger).

And most of all, the happiness that radiates from all the training updates I get from you guys!

Looking forward to coming to Kalmar and see 8 of you becoming Iron(wo)mans!

Time for some words in Dutch!

One of my earlier blogs on training in the fasted state, got a Dutch facelift and was published in the monthly magazine of the Dutch triathlon association.

Have a good read!

Yes, it's been quiet here. Yes, we're still up and running.

But things are about to change. From August 1st, I will have a position as assistant professor at Halmstad University. I will teach and set up my own line of research within exercise sciences.

I will miss coaching (even though I will continue to coach a few athletes) but I also missed science.

This FB page will instead become, even more than it already was, a medium to share the best, most interesting and most reliable articles with recent advances in exercise and nutrition science.

I kick off with an article that explains why scientists never seem to agree on 'what's good for your health'.

Take home message: define 'good' and define 'health', first, then we'll see whether the apparent paradox still stands.

Why are there so many contradictory nutrition studies, and how can they be improved?

What an awesome weekend!

Kungsholmen Runt half marathon/10K, Nacka half marathon, Brottby duathlon and Mallorca 70.3.

With outstanding performances of 'my' athletes. Congratulations Johan to a new PB at 1.19.21 on the half marathon, Jason being 15 (!) minutes faster than last year, Anna to your 2nd place in Brottby and Sara with improving your 10K times with 3 minutes :)

Hard work paid off. Have a great recovery!
