Svarta Bergen, 4 km west of Lönsboda in Småland, south of Sweden.
Even today this diabas quarry is one of the largest in the world's, with a length of 900 meters, a width of 50 meters and a depth of 75 meters. The quality of the diabase is one of the best in the world.
Diabas is a fine grained intrusive body which results as magma penetrates in the fine gaps after tectonic activity, which here happened more than 1.000.000.000 years ago.
Diabas is referred as the black gold.
At 'Svarta Bergen' there's a nice open air museum to show the activities from the past.
Even today, diabas is broken in Hägghult.
