A night of fun and learning as I led a group of Japanese expatriates in Singapore explore Sensoryscape with its newest SG60 installation of Peranakan cultural artifacts. They had a good time learning about the culture, playing with the AR effects and watching the fireworks at the end.

シンガポール在住の日本人駐在グループを率いて、プラナカン文化遺産を展示する最新のSG60インスタレーション「センサリースケープ」を見学し、楽しく学びに満ちた夜を過ごしました。参加者は文化について学び、ARエフェクトで遊び、最後には花火を鑑賞して楽しい時間を過ごしました。

I was honoured to be invited as a guest lecturer to deliver a one-hour long social studies lesson to 3 classes of primary 3 Japanese children on the topography of Singapore as well as how Singapore is planned over the years.

日本人小学校チャンギ校に招待され、3年生の子供たちに社会学習の講義をしに行きました。シンガポールの土地の高さや広がり、使われ方などの学習をさせ、最後にオーチャードエリアの古くから残った建物を紹介して、楽しい授業ができました。休憩時間に、子供たちは休みを取らず私の前に並んでたくさん質問をして、私はとても驚きました。4時間目の次は昼食なのに、残って質問をした子供も多かったです。貴重な機会になり、とても光栄です。

June 9 - Lim's Tours x JAS: Exploring the colors of Katong and Joo Chiat

It has been a while since I have led such a big group of people on a walking tour. We started the day at Ah Yee Soon Kueh where they get a taste of Singapore's local pastries. We then dropped by Paulin's coffee stand to say hello and she made roses out of Pandan leaves for everyone. Then a walk down Joo Chiat road led us to Black Earth Art Museum and the former Joo Chiat Maternity and Child Clinic. Our tea break was at Awfully Chocolate's first outlet in Singapore, where everyone enjoyed chocolate beverages and cakes. The tour ended with a visit to the conserved terrace houses at East Coast Road and the gallery at Kim Choo.

6月9日　日本人会開催　カトン街歩き旅：色彩と歴史の出会い

やや大きいグループに案内するのが久しぶりです。ツアーの最初、シンガポールロカールのお菓子を皆さんに試食してもらい、特別なコーヒースタンドによりました。店長のポーリンさんがとても喜んで全員にパンダンの葉っぱで作られたバラを差し上げました。そして、ジョーチャットロードを歩いて、ブラックアーズ美術館とジョーチャット婦人科病院で紹介をし、オーフリーチョコレート最初オペンしたアウトレットで休憩をとりました。とても美味しいチョコレートドリンクやケーキをご馳走いただいてから、イーストコーストロードの保護されたテラスハウスを見に行って、キムチューギャラリーを訪れてツアーが終了しました。

May 21 Visit to Singapore Silicon Valley by Gwangju Software Meister High School 1st Year Students

It was an honour to host a total of 70 students from Korea at Singapore Silicon Valley, one-north. The guides brought them on a tour around launchpad at one-north and they learned about the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Singapore.

May 19 - Singapore City Gallery Tour

It was an enlightening morning for this group of Japanese ladies to learn about the development of Singapore since the 14th century as they were brought from the earliest Temasek map to seeing the Singapore they know today. They were also amazed at the stories of how different Marina Bay would be if Tange Kenzo's concept was accepted. After the tour, we went to KADA where they had fun exploring the oldest elevator in Singapore.

5月19日　シンガポールシティーギャラリーツアー

14世紀から今までシンガポールの発展を、古い地図をみて驚いたことが多かったです。それに、もしこの前日本人建築家の丹下健三のコンセプトが採用されたら、現在のマリーナベイが全然違うことを知り、とてもビックリでした。たくさんの学習をしてからKADAモールに行って、シンガポール最も古いエレベーターを体験するのが楽しかったです。

May 12 - Southern Islands Tour

It's the long weekend! And so many parents brought along their families and children, making this the biggest group Lim's Tours has ever had! A total of 21 people in total. We departed for sisters' island in the morning and went on a nature walk around the island. At noon, we arrived at Kusu island and learned about the interesting inter-influence of cultures on the island. This is what makes Singapore's culture unique!

三連休でした！それでたくさんの家族と子供連れの方々がこのツアーに参加して、今まで最大のグループになりました！合計21人です。朝シスターズ島に出発し、そこで自然の勉強をし、正午にクス島に着き、そこで文化や宗教の融合を体験しました。それはシンガポールのユニークなところですね！

Following a lesson on deciphering some of the mysteries of Feng Shui and its influence on Singapore's buildings and development, the group embarked on a journey of rediscovery at some of the popular attractions of Singapore.

Apr 14, 2025 - Lim's Tours x JAS Lecture & Tour Course

Let's Enjoy Tiong Bahru, the Intersection of History and Modernity Tour

In this 6th installment of the Singapore Lecture and Tour series, I brought 14 course participants to explore the secrets of Tiong Bahru, a quaint neighbourhood highly popular with Japanese, but many do not know what they are missing out until they join my course. They were treated to Cheng's special Gula Melaka Pandan cake, with ingredients specially purchased in Melaka and I introduced them to the owner Mr. Cheng and the baker Dawn. For our break, I brought them to enjoy the Old Shifu Charcoal Porridge. After 3 hours of walking, we ended the tour at the top of Tan Boon Liat building, as we admired the panoramic view of Tiong Bahru estate. After the tour, to the surprise of Mr. Cheng, many participants wanted to go back to his store to do some shopping.

4月14日　チョンバルを楽しむ: 歴史とモダンが交差する街歩き

日本人会のシンガポールレクチャーアンドツアー講座の6回目は、チョンバルについての学習でした。授業ではアールデコの発祥地やそれの外観の特徴について紹介して、ツアーの当日にそれぞれの特徴を見に行きました。そしてチェングという有名なケーキ屋さんに訪れて、ベーカーのドーンさんに紹介して、椰子糖で作られた特殊なパンダンケーキを食べてもらいました。お昼休憩は別に有名なお粥屋さんで過ごして、ツアーの最後にタンブーンリェトビルディングを登ってチョンバルの景色を楽しみました。ツアー後、たくさんな方はケーキ屋さんに戻って買い物をして、店長さんがすごく喜んでいました。

Mar 31, 2025 Punggol Smart Nation Tour

As the nation celebrates Hari Raya Puasa, a group of us went on an exploration to the recreational district of Punggol to learn about its smart features and the up and coming digital district. By coincidence at the end of the tour, I bumped in Teacher Sato of Singapore Japanese School.

I was blessed with good weather this morning, cloudy and windy just before the heavy downpour. I had the honour to lead an Istana heritage tour for one of the groups of the Singapore Heart Foundation beneficiaries. It was an informative, fun-filled session for everyone.

Mar 24, 2025 - Lim's Tours x JAS Arts at Marina Bay

I brought the participants to embark on an arts experiential trip around Marina Bay. On the trip, I introduced the rationale behind the design and architecture of Esplanade - Theatres on the bay, the Merlion, and Fullerton Hotel. We took a break at the Courtyard of the Fullerton Hotel. The butterfly pea tea was superb! Then we went to explore the statues by the river, and finally the architecture and design of the national gallery, in particular, the atrium of the supreme court, the chief of justice chamber, city hall chamber and the Coleman deck.

3月24日　マリナベイエリア：美と空間の交響曲

日本人会のレクチャー&ツアー講座の6回目で、参加者を連れてマリナベイエリアを散策しながら、建造物のデザインや建築式を紹介しました。まず、エスプラネードの屋上に行って近くからドームのデザインを見ました。そして、ジュビリーブリージを渡ってマーライオンパークとフラートンホテルを紹介しました。休憩はフラートンホテルの素敵なコートヤードカフェで、皆さんバタフライティーを飲んで元気になりました。その後、シンガポール川沿いの彫刻を見て、シンガポールの歴史を習い、最後にナショナルギャラリーのデザインを見に行きました。建物のいろいろの工夫のところを紹介して、屋上に行ってマリナベイエリアの眺めを楽しみました。
