Has it really been 10 years???
We are incredibly honoured to announce that Indie Singapore has been awarded the Traveler's Choice Award for 2024, marking a decade of recognition! This accolade places us among the top 10% of things to do worldwide—something we would not have imagined when we started our journey with small group Free Walking Tours. We wanted to provide an alternative for independent travelers who did not want to go for more commercial tours. We made use of this to unveil different facets of the Singapore Story.
Something must have clicked as we started growing organically. As we explored, we found even more parts of our vibrant city that we fell in love with. We take great joy in uncovering and sharing the stories behind our rich culture.
TripAdvisor has played a significant role in our story. In 2017, we achieved our first major milestone by becoming #1 on the list of "Things to do in Singapore". This recognition was a pivotal moment for us, giving us the confidence to expand our offerings.
Today, our tours span a wide range, from the historical and cultural to the culinary and artistic; we bring you on trains and onto dragonboats on the water. Through it all, our small group Free Walking Tours remain the backbone of Indie Singapore, staying true to our roots of more intimate experiences.
More than anything, we owe our success to our wonderful guests and supporters, especially those who have joined us on multiple tours and taken the time to write such beautiful, heartfelt reviews. Your words and enthusiasm fuel our passion every day.

Last month, we had the immense privilege of being part of the , a celebration we've proudly contributed to since 2020. This festival is a beautiful tribute to our short yet incredibly rich history, shining a spotlight on Singapore's lesser-known cultural heritage.
In line with this year's theme, "Built Heritage," we curated two unique tours:
1. **Inclusivity and Diversity Tour**: In collaboration with the , we explored the vibrant diversity along Middle Road, highlighting the cultural mosaic that makes Singapore so special.
2. **Old School Tour**: We took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, focusing on the former school buildings within the district. It was a heartwarming experience to revisit the roots of our education system.
We're overjoyed with the amazing feedback from our guests and are honored to be recognized by the with a certificate of appreciation. The cool tote bag filled with nostalgic childhood keepsakes was the cherry on top!

Strolling through Kampong Glam during this month took on additional weight and significance for us. We were happy to show off the Ramadan Bazaars, but even prouder to be able to talk about the significance of fasting to our friends from all around the world.

We are one week into 2024, and what a whirlwind week it has been.
We were only just able to take a step back from the euphoria and hype of the new year, slow down and reflect on our journey.
This past year, as we stepped out of the shadows of COVID, we were able to start realizing some of our aspirations.
Collaborating with new partners, we curated experiences that surpassed our wildest imaginations. We are also super thankful for long time collaborators who have been trusting us to come up with the weirdest tours.
We were able to look beyond survival in 2023. We proudly aligned ourselves with national organizations and projects that resonate with our values— National Heritage Board for Singapore Night Festival and Singapore Heritage Festival, DesignSingapore for National Design Week, PAssion Wave for our ongoing History Wanderer and the Special Sunset Paddle, Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment for GoGreenSG, and Singapore Tourism Board for their support in some of our more unique endeavors. In doing so, we became not only witnesses but active participants in the cultural tapestry of our nation.
Recognition began to find its way to our doorstep, as we had the honor of hosting ministers and dignitaries on our tours.
We also had plenty of fun (and met some of our culinary heroes) with The World's 50 Best Restaurants and The World's 50 Best Bars !
To our partners, guests, family and friends, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your support has been the wind beneath our wings, propelling us toward new horizons.

What A Night!!

We were thrilled to share this adventure with friends, partners and some truly incredible interest groups. This included the guest of honor Minister .lee
Being part of such a monumental event filled us with pride. It's not every day you get to paddle through the heart of our beautiful city, surrounded by the stunning lights of the Singapore skyline. The sight of our fairy-litted kayaks and dragon boats, illuminated against the cityscape, was really quite dreamy to behold.
As we glided through the calm waters, we were able to share a lot more about our beautiful city. We used the opportunity to talk about our favorite trivia and factoids about the bay. We are really glad we were able to weave in tales about the incredible efforts to clean up the Singapore River, and also stories of our constant urban conservation and renewal.
Again, huge shoutout to our friends at PAssion Wave for making this night possible. The dedication and hard work they put into organizing this event is truly amazing. 🙌 . Thanks for orchestrating a night that we'll remember. Congratulations on a well-run event!

Last night, Singapore bid farewell to another exhilarating Formula 1 season. But for our guests on the Indie Singapore tour, the excitement was far from over.

What we did last night!
We had an enchanting evening as Indie Singapore embarked on a special tour with the vibrant community of for 2023 . We also had the honor of hosting DPM who joined us on this walk with his residents.
On the short tour, we dove into a world of interactive light installations, mesmerizing building projections, and captivating roving performances that transformed the entire district. It was a great joy to see our guests hard at play as we brought them to each art piece.
We went beyond the surface and delved into the heart and soul of the .bugis precinct, unearthing its rich heritage and storied history, and how this inspires some of the art that we see.
It was extra special when our older participants shared their cherished memories of growing up in these very spaces. It was like stepping into a time machine that we all rode together!

We held a special edition of our Free Walking Tour for Singapore's 58th National Day!
The sunny morning walk brought us through the vibrant streets of Kampong Glam and Bugis and we celebrated the kaleidoscope of cultures that make up Singapore. We love that we were able to show an Islamic Mosque, a Chinese Temple, a Christian Church, a Hindu Temple and a Jewish Synagogue in the span of one tour.
We were also fortunate to have a delightful mix of locals rediscovering their backyard, longtime residents who've found their second homes here, and adventurers from around the world who were visiting Singapore for the first time. We couldn't help but smile at the interactions that unfolded, with everyone sharing stories, laughter and (of course) recommendations of the best food to eat in Singapore.
The cherry on top was being able to bump into Mr Yip Yew Chong, hard at work painting his latest giant mural in Kampong Glam.
For us, this became more than a tour; it was a joyful embrace of the spirit that unites us all, and a reminder that our strength lies in our diversity.

Honoured to have hosted students and delegates of the Gangwon City government for their tour within the National Design Centre . It was interesting understanding what it was like to host the Pyeong Chang Winter Olympic (via a translator), and we were glad the young guests were able to check out the thought-provoking #NothingIsPossible exhibition. And we believe this is the first time we were featured on a Korean news channel.
"What matters most is how well you walk through the fire." - Charles Bukowski One of the hidden gems we discovered with our guests on our "Ssshhh... Geylang" tour. We decided to try this seemingly gimmicky (but so very Instagrammable) dish together on a whim, and was blown away by the intense flavors. Now, this #VolcanoChicken is a personal favourite when we are out with friends and family! It is always a joy when we are able to find new secrets behind districts that we thought we were familiar with. We especially love it when we are able to find something new together with our guests. #EpicMealtime
It is National Day here in Singapore! 2020 will probably go down as one of the strangest years for everyone alive today. We always like to joke that the average Singaporean's favourite pastime is Complaining. But if the past few months have shown us anything, we have seen that when the chips are down, a lot of Singaporeans readily put aside our differences (at least for a little while) to make sure that no one is left behind. We've been inspired by too many stories of Frontline workers and everyday Singaporeans going above and beyond to take care of those amongst us who need a bit more help. We think that the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the recent election have forced us to confront who we are as a country and who we want to be. We still have issues we need to work out, and we also have quite a few trials we would have to bash through in the near future. We are grateful that we would be facing these challenges here... surrounded by friends who are looking out for one another. Happy 55th, Singapore! #MajulahSingapura #SGUnited

Fun Sunday Watch: This has got to be one of our more challenging (and fun) projects - To bring a group of guests who had spontaneously agreed to come on a last minute flight to Singapore. We really wanted to give the guests an unforgettable experience, and to see a fun side of Singapore. At the same time, we also needed to cater to the dietary restrictions of the participants.
