BRITOIL PIONEERS THE USE OF ATERNATIVE FUEL WITH 100% HVO FUEL TEST

IMO’s strategy to achieve net-zero GHG emissions within 2050 is a key commitment to leading the Shipping industry towards a more sustainable future.

Britoil, in partnership with their long-lasting client ENI, the Classification Society RINA, the engines’ maker Nigata, Caterpillar and Luxembourg Flag Administration, performed a revolutionary test onboard their 2014-built DP2 AHTS “BOS Champagne” which will hopefully drive the change towards a quicker transition to sustainable fuels in the Offshore Support Vessels industry.

On the 21 March 2024, for the first time ever, 100% (HVO Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) was burnt onboard an OSV during a whole-day simulation performed offshore Ravenna (Italy) by the BOS Champagne. Strictly following procedures and risk-assessments jointly coordinated and agreed among all parties involved (i.e. Owners, Class, Flag Administration, Engine Maker, Client), the vessel operated in different conditions and in different modes, i.e. loading in port, sailing to the offshore field at economic speed, simulating a 500-meters zone platform-approach in Dynamic Position to conclude with a full speed transit back to Ravenna port where, upon arrival, change over procedures from HVO to MGO were tested.

The test demonstrated the viability of HVO as an efficient, sustainable and immediately-available alternative to marine gasoil. The operational performance of the vessel, after a full day burning 100% HVO, did not lead to any deviation from the norm.
This amazing test came as a result of weeks of hard work and coordination meetings, proving once again the second-to-none technical abilities of Britoil’s Ship Management Team lead.

We trust this is only the starting point of a quicker transition to sustainable fuels and we look forward to further cooperate with clients, suppliers, classification societies and other stakeholders to reducing the carbon impact of our industry.

Britoil is thrilled to announce the arrival of our newest vessel, the Britoil Justice. The vessel was smoothly delivered on 31st October 2023 at 1800 HRS in Guangzhou, China. With this proud acquisition, our fleet now comprises 27 vessels (57 when considering the joint Britoil-Vroon force), each with its own unique role and story within Britoil’s history.

Britoil Justice joins her sister vessel, the Britoil Journey, which was delivered earlier this year in April. These two vessels signify a renewed investment in our PSV assets, a strategic move following the divestment of Britoil Power/Energy.

These DP2 Platform Supply Vessels are of Ulstein P128 design, incorporating a diesel-electric propulsion system and a range of energy-saving features. In addition to the basic design, Ulstein has provided a power and automation package, including switchboards, PMS and propulsion drives. These Singapore-flagged 3,000 deadweight tonnage PSVs have 610 m2 of deck space each and are ready to serve the multifaceted needs of offshore activities.

Join us as we welcome the Britoil Justice, a symbol of our commitment to progress and adaptability in serving the offshore sector!
