SLOVAKIA HAS THE OLDEST COMPANY IN THE WORLD - THE MINT IN KREMNICA

Kremnica mint has been working successfully since 1328, and this makes it the oldest company in the world that works (almost) continuously. Kremnica is the historic centre of gold mining and coin striking in Slovakia. The building of the mint is located in the north-western corner of central square in town Kremnica. At the beginning, florins and later in the second third of the 14th century also ducats were struck here from the locally mined gold.

The historic building of the mint in Kremnica originally consisted of several Gothic houses from the 15th century. They were reconstructed and architecturally unified in the 16th century. The building got its own fortification and armoury. The oldest part of the mint as we know it now is its south-eastern wing where the room with original treasury leaning on the middle Renaissance pillar still exists.

The Museum of coins and medals that occupies one of the old burger houses in the southern row of the square is a source of information about the local tradition in mintage and medal engraving.

Mint Kremnica opened mint exposition which offers a view at interesting exhibits in the renovated rooms of the historical building of Mint along with a unique tour of the old coins mint. Minting room is the heart of each mint, it is the climax of highly professional and technologically-accurate process of treating of mint alloys by the coinage. Coins mint was established at the major mint restructure during 1881-1889 and became the part of a group of buildings from the 15th century. It is the unique well-preserved space with the parts of historical furnishing. The preserved set of historical mint machines of Vulkan brand in the premises of the old coins mint constitutes a technical and historical monument of international importance. Billions of pieces of mints were minted on these machines and in these premises, not only for the home country, but also for the tenths of the countries throughout the world.

Today, the visitors have also been allowed to see the newl coin-striking plant, used for minting Slovak Euro-coins.

SLOVAK GOLD - SHEEP CHEESE "BRYNDZA" IS A MEDICAL BIO BOMB WITH MORE THAN 20 PROBIOTIC CULTURES!

Slovak sheep cheese "bryndza" is a medical bio bomb which contains up to 20 different probiotic cultures! In Slovakia there are a many bio farms too, which are focused on animal husbandry, poultry, vegetables, fruits and medicinal herbs - here you can buy healthy food and products.
Sheep milk must be taken into production only from designated mountain regions of central and northern Slovakia. Welcome and taste this right medical bio bomb which is produced only in Slovakia! Bryndza is a sheep milk cheese made in Slovakia. In Slovakia, bryndza serves as the main ingredient to sheep cheese dumplings which is regarded the national speciality. Bryndza was first recorded in Slovakia in 1470. In Slovakia, bryndza serves as the main ingredient to sheep cheese dumplings , which is regarded the national speciality - dumplings are mixed with bryndza and topped with fried chops of fatty bacon.
Bryndza is therefore regarded as typically Slovak product. While most of the worlds commercially available cheese is made from cows milk, many parts of the world also produce cheese made from sheeps milk well-known examples being Roquefort, produced in France, Riccota and Pecorino Romano produced in Italy from ewes milk. Bryndza cheese is creamy white in appearance, known for its characteristic strong smell and taste. The cheese is white, tangy, crumbly and slightly moist. It has characteristic odor and flavor with a notable taste of butyric acid. The overall flavor sensation begins slightly mild, then goes strong and finally fades to a salty finish.
The modern version of the soft spreadable bryndza is believed to have been developed by entrepreneurs from Western Slovakia toward the end of the 18th century who founded bryndza manufactures in mountainous regions of Central and Nothern Slovakia (Slovak Liptov region) where sheep cheese production had deep roots in the local cheese manufacturing tradition, and traded with it, popularizing bryndza all around the Habsburg Monarchy.

EASTER IN SLOVAKIA - IN ACCORDANCE TO OLD CULTURAL TRADITIONS

Easter is the most significant Christian holiday. Because it is a moveable holiday, its date changes every year. Christians begin Easter celebration on Holy Thursday. Good Friday is a state holiday in Slovakia. While many people usually do not go to work, stores and supermarkets are usually open. On Good Friday, the day of abstinence, Christians commemorate the death of Jesus Christ. Then on Easter Sunday then celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ; however, not only Christians celebrate Easter. Easter preparations begin days before Easter. To be ready for the feast, people bake pastries, cookies, and do extensive grocery shopping. Easter dinner menu is always festive: potato salad with mayonnaise, cooked ham, cold cuts, and sandwiches are served on Easter Sunday as well as on Easter Monday. Cookies and pastries cannot be excluded from the Easter menu.

Water pouring is a typical Easter Monday custom in Slovakia. The character of water pouring slightly varies from region to region. On this day men visit their female relatives and friends and pour water on them or spray them with perfume, and whip them gently with special whips made of braided willow rods. According to tradition, pouring water on women will guarantee their beauty and good health throughout the year. Recently water pouring and whipping have not been as intense as they used to be in the past decades. In many regions, water buckets have been replaced with perfumes, a small syringe filled with water, a water cup, or a water pistol. However, in some villages you may still see young men, sometimes riding on the horses or dressed in traditional folk costumes, who come with rattles and braided whips decorated with colorful ribbons. They may take females out of the houses and douse them with a bucket or buckets filled with cold water. During this tradition men may sing songs and play the accordion. After oblievacka and sibacka, women reward men with sweets, fruit, money, or painted Easter eggs. Easter eggs are quite popular in Slovak tradition. Easter eggs are painted, dyed, or otherwise decorated blown eggs. Many decorate easter eggs at home or buy them at market or at the craft store. While it is not required to give Easter eggs to visiting males on Easter Monday, only a few men will leave the house without a drink or small refreshment.

SLOVAK CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS

Christmas is celebrated throughout the world by different peoples in a slightly different way. Slovaks celebrate Christmas in their own special way. On Slovakia Christmas celebrations begin with Advent. Many Slovaks are Roman Catholics so this is the start of the important spiritual preparations for Christmas.

The Christian celebration of Christmas is linked with the pagan feast of the winter solstice. Ancient Slovak forefathers ascribed magic powers to this special time of the year. They believed that the rites would serve to protect the crops and cattle from harmful demons, to ensure a good harvest, to bring happiness in love and in family life in the year to come. The rise of Christianity in Europe subordinated this feast to the church calendar of Christ being born on December 25, but some of the other Christmas customs were nevertheless taken over from pagan traditions and myths, and even determine the course and character of these celebrations of the eternal victory of life over death to this very day.

24th December (Christmas Eve). The Slovak words for Christmas Eve are literally "Bountiful Eve" and the bounty of this sacred evening lies in the wide range of festive dishes, of which there had to be twelve different kinds. Even today many Slovak families must have on the Christmas table garlic (to ward off demons), honey, wafers, nuts, cooked peas or French beans, dried fruit, and the main dish, cabbage soup with mushrooms and "opekance" - small pieces of dough - with poppy seed and honey. At the beginning of this century, fish has become the traditional meat served during Christmas Eve (their scales are said to bring wealth into the house) in the Catholic portion of the population while the Lutherans would add smoked meats and sausage to their cabbage soup. Christmas holidays are also very rich in Slovak pastries and baked goods that are prepared over many evenings during the month of December. Christmas gifts wearing to children Baby Jesus and gifts are put under the Christmas Tree. Christmas Day is much quieter and day of rest. People might go to Holy Mass and visit their family on Christmas Day. Families with children like to attend church to watch 'Bethlehems' which are locate almost in every church. After dinner people will go on a Midnight Mass and singing Silent Night.

SLOVAK TRADITIONAL WEDDING FOLK COSTUME AROUSED A BIG INTEREST IN THE WORLD

On the 65th edition of prestigious world beauty contest Miss World 2015 in the southern Chinese city Sanya aroused a big interest a traditional Slovak wedding folk costume, which means a celebration and pride on cultural heritage for Slovaks. Slovak wedding folk costume was presented by Miss Slovakia 2015 Lujza Straková. The production of folk costume endures more than one year and all the details are sewn by hand.

Slovakia is traditionally a rich European country and it has a fantastic cultural heritage. Although the country has not too much population but its small population is divided into many regions and each region has its own cultural identity and significance. The Slovak people have splendid treasure of folk dances, music, art, dialect and traditional costumes.
The traditional dress of Slovakia has the influences from the medieval style of clothing that was gradually altered with different patterns, designs and modifications. The changing occurred due to the foreigners that used to come in the region and the historic fashion trends in the clothing were evolved. New kinds of raw materials were introduced in the region and variations were brought according to the geographic and climatic need as well.
In the lowland areas of Slovakia, people usually preferred linen and the costumes were of loose nature while in the mountainous areas, woolen textiles and furs were also used and the clothing was fashioned more tightly. Today, it is only a matter of festive occasion to dress up traditionally in every region of Slovakia.

SLOVAKIA, A LITTLE COUNTRY IN THE HEART OF EUROPE, HAS A GREAT SPORTSMEN !

Slovak cyclist Peter Sagan is the World Champion ! A dream became true. Congratulations to your fantastic success Peter from Slovakia incoming.

"I am very happy. I had a great motivation to win, I put a lot into training in the last three weeks. I am very glad that I managed to win. It is my greatest career achievement. Today it was mostly about long waiting and attacking at the right moment. I had my brother Juraj and one more team member Michael Kolar by my side, who helped me a lot. I thank them for that. They were ready to help me at any time on the track, for example, replacing a bicycle. Even I couldn’t avoid a crisis, but that's part of it. The current political situation in the world is complicated and sport is a good means for people to get a new hope. I believe that I have contributed to it today. "

THE FAIRY TALE SLOVAK BOJNICE CASTLE IS THE 3-rd WONDERFUL CASTLE IN THE WORLD

The Castle stands on a large travertine monticule on the site of medieval castle from the 11th century. In the past, the most famous Hungarian noble families owned it and the last of them was the family of Pálfi. Count Ján Pálfi had the structure reconstructed by the architect J. Hubert from Budapest at the end of the 19th century following the pattern of romantic castles of the Loire in central France. The typical silhouette of the romantic image of medieval castle is enhanced by steep roofs of the palace, chapel and towers.

Collections of artistic and historical museum are concentrated in the interior of the castle. Among them is the original furniture and the artistic collection of the Pálffys from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and the most valuable item of national importance is the Late-Gothic altar of Bojnice made by Nardo di Cione Ortagna, artist from Florence in the mid-14th century. The visit to the castle includes that of dripstone cave under the Castle that communicates with the 26-m deep castle well.

International Festival of Ghosts and Spooks in held here regularly by the end of April and beginning of May. It is when the Bojnický zámok Castle becomes the meeting point of ghosts, spooks, witches, and vampires from all over the world.

An extensive park and landscape park are the inseparable parts of the castle area. The 600-year old lime tree of Bojnice of the King Matthias with 12.5-m trunk circumference stands in front the castle entrance.

FUGGER FAMILY, THE RICHEST FAMILY IN THE WORLD ALSO CALLED THE ROTSCHILDS IN THE RENAISSANCE IN SLOVAKIA

Who was Fugger family? How they influenced life in Slovakia?

In the 16th century, one of the richest and most influential families of the world, merchants and bankers of the German city of Augsburg.

Their first commercial company founded in the late 15th century Jakob Fugger with input capital about 55 thousand florins. He traded with wool, silk, spices, gradually he increasingly focused on the extraction of ore.
Soon he was drawn to one of Europe's largest producers of gold, tin, iron ore, lead, particularly copper and silver, which he had virtually a monopoly position.
He also owned a bank and its assets grew at an incredible pace. Large amounts borrowed from him indebted sovereigns and nobility with the financial assistance is also associated political rise of the Habsburgs.
He generously supported the example of Emperor Maximilian I.and also his grandson Charles V. would later did not obtain the crown of the Holy Roman Empire without Fuggers money.
For financial support Jakob Fugger gained mining rights in different parts of the empire, and in 1494 he founded with Ján Thurzo company Neusohler Kupferhandel (loosely translated as Banska Bystrica trade in copper). In the first ten years Jakob invested in the construction of about a million gold, and on the central Slovakia was established enterprise, which was unprecedented in Europe . The result of modernization of mining and copper production and construction of new metallurgical centers (Staré Hory, Kremnica, Špania Valley, Tajov, Moštenica) was a leading position in the market. The copper from Banska Bystrica are exported to all over the world and the local production accounted for 40 percent of European volumes.

His nephew Anton Fugger continued the policy of his uncle, not only in business but also in support of the Habsburgs. Considerable amounts received above-mentioned Emperor Charles V and his brother, the Austrian Archduke, Czech and Hungarian king and later also Emperor Ferdinand I. In addition, Anton Fugger financially supported for example, fight against Protestants or war against the Turks and loans received from him also English monarchs.

But in Slovakia Anton Fugger invested not only in mining ore and copper production. In 1535 he purchased from its trading partners, family Thurzo, Red Stone Castle. He did not, however, settle it, he planned to use it as a safe repository for articles, with whom he did business. The castle, which was built in the 13th century by Queen Constance and later belonged among others, Matus Cak Trenciansky or family Zápoľský, was in fact a strategic position. Near the castle was Pressburg (today Bratislava) and Vienna.
