The dominant of Trenčín and whole Middle-Váh-Valley (Považie) keeps guard over the old mercantile routes connecting the Mediterranean area with the Baltic and North Europe.
On the locality of today´s castle was built a bulwark in the times of Great Moravia, serving as a community centre. Contemporary castle arose in the 11th century as a borderland stronghold watching important Váh fords and Carpathian passes, through which there led mercantile routes, merging the territory of Northern Hungary and Middle-Slovak mining towns with Bohemia, Moravia, Silesia and Poland. In the next centuries it became the domicile of borderland commitat, royal and later aristocratic county.

The history of the Bratislava Castle goes back to Celtic and Roman times as the castle hill had a strategical position at the crossroads of important commercial routes. In the BC era there was a Celtic oppidum on the hill, replaced several centuries later by Roman bordering fortress.

Lomnický štít (Lomnický peak) is one of the highest and most visited mountain peaks in the High Tatras mountains of Slovakia. Connected by cable car [1] to Tatranská Lomnica, its summit is 2634 metres above sea level, making it the second highest peak in the High Tatras after Gerlachovský štít (2654 m).
The first ascent was made by local shoemaker and amateur miner Štefan Fábry around 1760-1790, but the first recorded ascent was made by the English traveler Robert Townson and guide on 16 August 1793. He measured almost precisely the elevation of the peak at 2633 m. The first winter ascent was made in 1891.
In the past, Lomnický štít was called Dedo ("Grandpa"). Before the 19th century, the peak was also thought to be the highest of all.
Since 1940, tourists have reached the peak by cable car, which was the most modern in Europe at the time of opening. They are allowed to stay on the peak for 50 minutes. The cable car system is normally closed in the month of May for annual maintenance. It is also possible to climb the peak from Lomnický Saddle, but this is only permitted with a mountain guide.
There is a solar observatory and weather station permanently manned year round at the terminus of the cable car.

Banská Štiavnica, the oldest mining town in Slovakia, played an important role as early as before the second third of the 13th century, i.e. before the period when the first town privileges granted in the Hungarian Empire were bestowed by King Belo IV. The town acquired its privileges not later than in 1238 or 1237. The original documents have not been preserved, but its accorded privileges served as a model for those of subsequently established mining towns. However, an existing document dated 1275 in Banská Štiavnica contains the oldest town seal known to exist in Europe, picturing the town coat of arms with archaic mining tools (especially a chisel without a handle), thereby, definitively linking mining and the town from its very beginning.

belongs to the oldest and most important memorials in Slovakia. It stands on a travertine hill over the town. The first written record of the existence of the castle comes from 1113 in the writ of Zobor Abbey.
It was originally a wooden castle developed from an older rampart. It was gradually built up from stone as the property of the Poznan family in the 13th century.

A picturesque countryside of Gemer set in the heart of Slovakia had always been seen as little Europe or small-scaled Hungarian Kingdom. Its hills, valleys and towns formed the scene of both our own and European history. During World War II and especially the time after it, the cruel hand of fate and of the emerging era devastated the Slovak cultural and historical heritage. Fortunately, even the socialist regime was unable to completely destroy the rich culture of our ancestors. However, only a small number of almost fully preserved castles has been left to please our eyes, one of them being the Krásna Hôrka Castle. The exceptional collections in the castle museum and different types of architecture attract visitors from all over the world. Join us on our journey and get to know our history through the medieval castle of the House of Andrássy.

Ochtinská Aragonit Cave belongs to the world heritage of UNESCO. It is situated in Revúcka Highlands (Revúcka vrchovina) on the north western slope of the hill Hrádok by the road between the towns of Jelšava and Štítnik. The cave was discovered accidently in 1954, at the time when people were digging mines. Out of its total length 300 m, 230 m have been open to public since 1972.
The cave rooms were created by processes of atmospheric water in underground limestone. Aragonite formations were created in the underground hollows. Especially the formation called the Hearth of Hrádok (Srdce Hrádku), which with its spikes and needles is a unique natural monument. Its white color is in a strong contrast with a blue background color of the limestone.

In the south of the town Banská Štiavnica, which was together with its surroundings inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, under the legendary hill of Sitno lies the town of Saint Anton. This area is unique for the presence of rich historical and cultural monuments. The town itself is dominated by the baroque-classicist manor house that was built on a site of a smaller fortified castle mentioned in historical documents as early as in 15th century.

Dobšinská ice cave belongs among the most important ice caves in the world. Since 2000 it is inscribed on the world heritage list. As compared with known high-mountain ice caves Eisriesenwelt and Dachstein-Rieseneishöhle in Austrian Alps or with the Romanian Scărişoara Cave in Bihor Mts., which has the glaciated part at elevations of 1,100 to 1,120 m n. m., the monumental glaciation of the Dobšinská Ice Cave persist for thousands of years at elevations only 920 to 950 m.

Orava Castle (Slovak: Oravský hrad, German: Arwaburg, Hungarian: Árva vára), is situated on a high rock above Orava river in the village of Oravský Podzámok, Slovakia. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful castles in Slovakia. The castle was built in the Kingdom of Hungary in the thirteenth century.

Orava Castle stands on the site of an old wooden fortification, built after the Mongol invasion of Hungary of 1241. Its history since then reveals a familiar pattern of construction, destruction, reconstruction, fire, various ownerships and territorial squabbles. The original design was in Romanesque and Gothic style; it was later reconstructed as a Renaissance and Neo-Gothic structure, hugging the shape of the 520-metre spur on which it perches.

SLOVAK PARADISE
The National Park Slovak Paradise is situated in the eastern part of Slovakia. In 1964 it was proclaimed the Protected Landscape Area and in 1988 recategorised by the government imposition to be the National Park. The park covers the area of 19763 ha (197,63 km2) and the protected zone 13 011 ha (130,11 km2).
Originally, the whole region of the National park was a large territory, later divided by the rivers (Hornád, Hnilec) and the creeks (Veľký Sokol-Big Falcon, Suchá Belá-Dry Belá, Biely potok-White Creek) into several bigger and smaller plateaux (Glac, Geravy). During the thousands of years the creeks formed gorges with waterfalls (Kyseľ, Piecky, Sokolia dolina-Falcon Valley, Zejmarská roklina- Zejmarská Gorge), that are typical for the Slovak Paradise.
