تمثال ، المعروف أيضاً بتمثال أسد أثينا، كان يزين مدخل معبد اللات في #تدمر، المدينة الأثرية المدرجة على لائحة
التراث العالمي ليونيسكو. يبلغ طول التمثال 3 أمتار ونصف، ويزن 15 طناً. يعود تاريخ صنع التمثال إلى القرن الأول الميلادي، وهو مصنوع من الحجر الجيري. يتوضع بين قدمي الأسد غزال، وهو دلالة على حماية القوي للضعيف، وأن الأسد هو حامي اللاجئين إلى المعبد.

Located in the heart of the Syrian capital, the National museum of Damascus was first built in 1936. It covers the entire range of Syrian history over a span of 11 millennia. The museum displays a large variety of finds, relics and artifacts from three of Syria's most important ancient archaeological sites and . The first museum was founded in 1919 under the supervision of the Syrian Ministry of Education at Al-Adiliyah Madrasa and housed a smaller collection of archaeological finds until it was moved to this current location.
