❤️ "Chak Phra Traditional Festival - Long Boat Race" ❤️
in the southern Thai province of Surat Thani. It celebrating the symbolic return of the Lord Buddha’s to earth at the end of Buddhist Lent or Ok Phansa.

The grand final parade happens on 6 October this year and is the highlight of the nine-day Surat Thani Chak Phra Festival and Boat Races celebration. It is a procession of the brightly decorated boats and trucks from more than 100 temples pulling the revered Buddha images along the town’s Tapi River’s bank and Naris Bridge.

On the same day, Buddhist monks mark the end of the three-month Buddhist Lent by receiving alms in a traditional Kathin ceremony. Meanwhile, the annual Surat Thani Boat Races are organised with racing teams from several provinces in southern Thailand coming to take part.

Other highlights during the festival include a Phum Pha Pa contest, local handicraft fair and sale, a photo exhibition and other cultural performances related to tourism activities.

▶️ Koh Phangan is Thailand’s fifth biggest island. Located halfway between the islands of Ko Samui and Ko Tao it is known as a land of coconut trees and the world (in) famous full moon parties. Phangan does not have an airport and relies heavily on ferries from the mainland and Koh Samui.
▶️ The best time to visit the island and also high season is during December-March when the water is high, clean, and good for swimming. It's also not rainy and temperatures are pleasant. Another high season time is during July/August after dry season when the water is rising.

WHAT'S THE BEST MONTH ON KOH SAMUI ?

Koh Samui has generally 3 different seasons, hot season, dry season and rainy season. We have some detailed information about each season, to make it easier for you to choose the right time for your holiday on Koh Samui.

DECEMBER – FEBRUARY >>>

It is usually the dry season on Koh Samui and on the southern west coast of Thailand. It does not rain a lot, which means that waters quite calm, but it some occasional heavy rains for an hour or two might occur.
Generally it occurs some refreshing wind or breeze and you should enjoy a lot of sunshine at this time of the year.

MARCH – AUGUST >>>

With quite dry, sunny and hot weather the months between March and August are called the hot season. March and April are in experience the hottest and driest months and in May it might start to rain more often. These showers are mostly not lasting very long, but can be heavy falls or thundershowers.
Actually this is the best season to visit Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao and the National Marine Park, if you are able to take the heat and stand temperatures between 28℃ – 40℃ during the day.

SEPTEMBER – NOVEMBER >>>

Temperatures are still hot and usually in September there are still many sunny days. October and November are the months with the most rainy days and with the biggest volume of rainfall around the year.
Rainy Season or monsoon season does not mean, that it will be raining at all times, but rainfalls and thundershowers are very common and there might be times with non-stop rain for 5-6 days. Nevertheless this season is highly appreciated after a long period with hot and dry weather, you might even find yourself in a refreshing monsoon shower for a moment.

Most of the rain showers are short (rain showers in October and November might be lasting longer) and due to the finite water supplies of Koh Samui those rain showers are needed and important for Koh Samui’s flora and fauna.

Mu Ko Ang Thong - Island near Koh Samui

Mu Ko Ang Thong is a marine national park in the Gulf of Thailand, on the shores of the Surat Thani Province. The Angthong National Park was established on 12th November 1980. Angthong, translates as ‘golden bowl’ is a protected nature area famous for its natural beauty.

The best time to visit Ang Thong Marine National Park is March to October when the seas are calmer. The park is sometimes closed due to inclement weather in the months of November through January.

Snorkelling, hiking, sea kayaking, diving, sailing and simply relaxing on one of its idyllic beaches are the main activities to enjoy on Ang Thong.
