Boat sharing with Fishing in Phuket. For the “Visitor / Tourist” wishing to share a boat. As we have a reasonably large ex-pat community who are all keen fishermen and stay here the majority of the year and would be prepared to go fishing on short notice if their portion of the boats expense is limited to a modest contribution. On some of Fishing in Phuket’s boats taking Mena 2,3 or 5 for example

the touring visitor would be expected to pay ½ the cost, in this case 6,000 Baht with the balance coming from Ex-pats and if there are only 1 or 2 (at 2000B) the PF&B Assn. with their partners Fishing in Phuket will subsidize the balance of the trip’s cost, so there will never be more 3 Ex-pats, as we recommend no more than 4/5 for fishing, a “big problem” with other boat sharing companies. This is an “open form” therefore other tourist / visitor may be available to “take” the complete other half of the charter, which should appeal to couples or small family units.For more serious fishing we would recommend Mena 1, at 16,000 Baht as she carries better gear and has a more experienced “fishing” crew. In this case the tourist / client’s cost would be 8,000 baht with the same arrangement as above. 2,000 Baht per head (for 4) Ex-pats, if only 1 or 2 we will again make up the difference.

This is the corner of a hand sewn sail made in the 1800s. The craftsmanship and quality of the work is amazing. This is a lost art. The canvas sails were made of h**p along with clothing, ropes, and the caulking used to fill gaps between planks among other things. H**p is 3 times stronger than jute and was preferred because it was unaffected by salt water. The work done by sail makers was demanding and left no room for error as their sails would be what brings fishermen home safely. 🙂
