🆕 Today, Wednesday, February 27, 2025, IKEA is opening its first store in Chiang Mai 😃

This will be the 5th point of sale in Thailand. The new store is located in the sub-district of Mae Hia, at the MAKRO shopping center. There will be plenty to see, touch and try on the spot of the Swedish manufacturer's famous products. “Life Xpress” is the name of the concept of the shopping center that is hosting the brand. A retail collaboration with Decathlon, CP Future City, CP AXTRA, CP All and TRUE.

The store covers more than 700 m2 and operates like an IKEA order point, offering more than 300 self-service items, design consultation services and a Click & Collect service for online orders. It will also offer a Swedish Bites corner, serving snacks such as ice cream, cakes, hot dogs and jellies to put together yourself.

This is a new retail model that IKEA is testing in Chiang Mai. If successful, similar stores could be introduced in Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Rayong, Surat Thani and Hat Yai.

Ce sera le 5e point de vente en Thaïlande. Le nouveau magasin est situé dans le sous-district de Mae Hia, au centre commercial MAKRO. De quoi voir, toucher et essayer les fameux produits du fabricant suédois sur place. « Life Xpress » est le nom du concept du centre commercial qui accueille l'enseigne. Poi Luang ceremony at the Chedi Wat Pa Heo, not far from Chiang Mai ☸️

Poi Luang is a religious ceremony in honor of a Buddhist temple, an opportunity to seal the unity of the sangha, i.e. the monks and the faithful. It is also an opportunity for devotees to accumulate merit, a concept dear to Theravada Buddhism, on behalf of their parents, grandparents or deceased loved ones. The temple is then in celebration, for a single day or for several days as here for no less than 5 days, from Wednesday February 27 to Monday March 3, 2025!

A culturally vibrant weekend market @ Dhara Dhevi!

We recently told you about the sad closure of one of the jewels of Chiang Mai's hotel industry, the Dhara Dhevi and its Burmese palace. And now the municipality of Tha Sala has worked to revive this place, which is worth a visit in itself. From today, a weekend market in a luxurious setting is on offer: the 'Kad Dhara Dhevi', as part of the Lanna cultural revival project.

The market, designed to resemble a traditional northern Thai village, offers a mix of luxury shops, crafts and culture, as well as renowned cafés and restaurants. On the program:
◆ Cultural performances with traditional dance and music
◆ Crafts with various workshops, including the making of Lanna lanterns, mural art and old-fashioned nail carving.
◆ Fashion and souvenirs such as shoes embroidered by the surrounding ethnic minorities, cotton clothing and other unique accessories.
◆ Northern cuisine and local specialties offered by renowned restaurants and cafés.

The market was inaugurated yesterday, Friday, February 21, 2025, and will be held until Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. After that, the market will be held on the last weekend of each month (from Friday to Sunday). We hope this will become a regular event, despite the strong competition from the weekend markets. Un marché du week-end animé culturellement Dhara Dhevi !

L’on vous avait naguère parlé de la triste fermeture d’un des joyaux de l’hôtellerie de Chiang Mai, le Dhara Dhevi et son palais birman. Et voilà que la municipalité de Tha Sala a œuvré pour faire revivre ce lieu dont la visite à elle seule vaut le déplacement. À partir d’aujourd’hui, c’est un marché du week-end dans un cadre luxueux qui vous est proposé : le 'Kad Dhara Dhevi', dans le cadre du projet de renouveau culturel Lanna.

Le marché, conçu pour ressembler à un village north-thaïlandais traditionnel, propose un mélange de boutiques de luxe, d'artisanat et de culture, ainsi que des cafés et des restaurants réputés. Au programme :
◆ Spectacles culturels avec danse et musique traditionnelles
◆ Artisanat avec divers ateliers, notamment la fabrication de lanternes lanna, de l'art mural et de la gravure d'ongles à l'ancienne.
◆ Mode et souvenirs tels que des chaussures brodées par les minorités ethniques des alentours, des vêtements en coton et autres accessoires uniques.

Festival de l'Artisanat à Pasang 😃

A magnificent festival that takes place over 5 days in the Chiang Mai province! The fair started yesterday, Thursday, February 13, and lasts until Monday, February 17, 2025. The highlight is on Saturday 🗓

If you go, you will experience an authentic Lanna cultural event: a cotton festival and a local produce fair at the same time! This is the 30th edition of the Long Straight Skirt Festival (pa sin or pa teen jok), including a fair of local handicrafts, some OTOP (from, among others, the ethnic minorities of the region, including the Hmong and the Karen). Un magnifique festival qui se déroule sur 5 jours dans la province de Chiang Mai ! La foire a commencé hier, jeudi 13 février, et dure jusqu'au lundi 17 février 2025. Le point d'orgue, c'est samedi 🗓

En y allant, vous vivrez un événement culturel authentique du Lanna : un festival du coton et une foire de produits locaux en même temps ! Soit la 30e édition du Festival de la longue jupe droite (pa sin ou pa tin jok), incluant une foire des produits artisanaux locaux, certains OTOP (provenant entre autres des minorités ethniques de la région, dont les Hmong et les Karen). From tomorrow, Friday, February 14, 2025, a new pedestrian market will be enlivening Chiang Mai! The Nimman Six, as its name suggests, is being held at soi 6 on Nimmanhaemin Street, in the trendy district of Chiang Mai, from 5pm to 10pm.

This is not the first attempt to establish a regular walking street market in this part of the city. Let's hope it's the right one.

Dès demain, vendredi 14 février 2025, un nouveau marché piétonnier anime Chiang Mai ! Le Nimman Six, comme son nom l’indique, est organisé au soi 6 de la rue Nimmanhaemin, le quartier branchée de Chiang Mai, de 17h à 22h.

Ce n’est pas le premier essai d’instauration d’un marché piétonnier régulier dans cette partie de la ville. Espérons que ce soit le bon.

Pung Tao Kong Pagoda Festival 🐉 🧧
Today in Chiang Mai (Monday 10 to Monday 17 February 2025). Chinatown is alive with a celebration in honor of a Chinese goddess. It all takes place around the Pung Tao Kong Shrine (ศาลเจ้าปุงเถ่ากงเชียงใหม่), the Chinese temple located in the Warorot market district, Chiang Mai's Chinatown, precisely here: https://goo.gl/maps/PYtMf9YG3mD2 👈

Lots of activity day and night for 8 days, with Chinese folk shows and Chinese food stalls. Don't miss the lively evening entertainment, including Chinese opera.

Aujourd'hui à Chiang Mai (du lundi 10 au lundi 17 février 2025). Le quartier chinois est animé par une célébration en l'honneur d'une déesse chinoise. STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL 2025 IN SAMOENG 🍓

The postponement of Chiang Mai's Flower Festival to the second weekend of February creates an unfortunate telescoping with another festival that also has its charm, the Strawberry Festival 2025, which takes place in Samoeng from Saturday February 8 to Friday February 14, 2025 😕 And it's obvious that tourists will choose the first festival to the detriment of the second.

Le report de la Fête des Fleurs de Chiang Mai au second week-end du mois de février crée un bien malheureux télescopage avec une autre fête qui a elle aussi son charme, la Fête de la Fraise 2025 qui a lieu à Samoeng du samedi 8 au vendredi 14 février 2025 😕 Et il est évident que les touristes choisiront la première fête au détriment de la seconde.

Sachez cependant que la journée-phare du Festival de la Fraise sera le dimanche 9 février 2025, tôt le matin avec sa cérémonie d'ouverture et surtout son cortège animée où la fraise est reine.
