Volendam
Holland America Line announced updates to its 2026 Grand World Voyage aboard the Volendam.

The revised itinerary now includes stops in East and Southeast Asia, Central America, and destinations in the U.S., along with a transit of the Panama Canal.

This change replaces the previous route through the Red Sea, a decision made due to the security situation in the region.

The voyage will now visit 51 ports across 23 countries and territories on five continents, concluding in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on May 17, 2026.

“We know immersive experiences in exciting destinations are always a main draw for those choosing a world cruise. The dozen ports we’ve added in Asia will bring that part of the world to life for our guests,” said Beth Bodensteiner, chief commercial officer for Holland America Line. “From exploring the emerald waters of Halong Bay or snorkeling in Nha Trang to overnight stays in Hong Kong, Nagasaki and Tokyo, the deep exploration of the region provides guests the opportunity to take in the culture and natural beauty of Asia as part of their world cruise.”

New highlights include:

Following the overnight call in Singapore, the Volendam will sail north to Vietnam, calling at Phu My (Ho Chi Minh City), Nha Trang, and Halong Bay (Hanoi).
The ship will overnight in Hong Kong before continuing northeast to Kaohsiung and Keelung (Taipei), Taiwan.
Guests will enjoy six ports in Japan, including overnights in Nagasaki and Tokyo, before completing a transpacific crossing.
The Volendam will visit Kodiak, Sitka and Ketchikan, Alaska, before sailing south along the Pacific Coast of the U.S. to Seattle, Washington, and San Diego, California.
The voyage continues southeast to Manzanillo and Puerto Chiapas, Mexico, Acajutla, El Salvador, and overnight in Fuerte Amador (Panama City), Panama, before transiting the Panama Canal.

For travelers seeking to make new bookings on the 2026 Grand World Voyage, prices start at $30,354 per person, including taxes and fees, based on double occupancy. Beginning on November 13, guests can book segments ranging from 21 to 55 days featuring the updated itinerary. Notable segments include a 55-day journey from Singapore to Fort Lauderdale departing on March 24, 2026, a 21-day voyage from Singapore to Tokyo on the same date, and a 34-day trip from Tokyo to Fort Lauderdale departing on April 14, 2026.

Princess Cruises’ stunning Crown Princess sailed into Sydney Harbour on Saturday, making her debut in the Emerald City. Flanked by a group of Love Boat themed water skiers, the ship will now sail year-round from Australia.

Crown Princess guests had front row seats to a spectacular water show across from the iconic Sydney Opera House to celebrate her landmark homeport season.

After completing a successful repositioning voyage from North America to Australia, Crown Princess’ Captain Christopher Lye said, “We couldn’t feel more at home in our new and beautiful homeport of Sydney. It’s a place that is very special to me and many of the ship’s guests and crew. We’re excited to be here and introduce Aussie guests to our magnificent Love Boat.”

In the next 12 months, Crown Princess will contribute more than $120 million to the national economy as she makes 78 visits to 21 different ports around the country—a record for any Princess ship.

“In addition to taking Princess guests to some of the most desired locales throughout Australia, Crown Princess also will set sail on the biggest world cruise ever undertaken by any cruise line in either the Southern or Northern Hemisphere, with guests set to embark on an epic 113-night circumnavigation of the globe departing local shores in May 2025,” said Terry Thornton, chief commercial officer for Princess Cruises. “Her deployment is a major milestone which reflects Australians’ enduring love of cruising and loyalty to Princess in Australia.”

With almost 900 of her staterooms featuring private balconies – more than any other ship ever based Down Under – Crown Princess will give more Australians the chance to cruise in style.

Vietnam Plans New Cruise Port
October 26, 2024
Vietnam Port Rendering
Vietnam is planning to build a new $315 million cruise port on its southern coast, according to reports from local media.

The new facility would be located in the beach city of Vung Tau, with the capacity to handle some of the world’s largest cruise ships.

Local news website VN Express International said that plans include a pier capable of receiving up to two 228,000-ton vessels, handling roughly 6,000 guests per day.

The project also features a range of amenities, including a cruise terminal with shops, offices, hotels, and tourist accommodation.

Planned supporting infrastructure will include parking areas, as well as dedicated areas for official vessels and maritime services.

The cruise port was proposed by the Portcoast-Tediport-Hpec consortium during a meeting with the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province People’s Committee.

Designed as a major getaway for Southern Vietnam, the facility would be located near a cable car complex at Vung Tau’s Front Beach.

In addition to attracting both international and domestic cruise guests, the port is also expected to host cultural and economic events, boosting the province’s economy.

The Ba Ria-Vung Tau People’s Committee is reportedly finalizing the feasibility studies for the project while preparing to select investors.

According to VN Express International, Ba Ria-Vung Tau has been a growing destination for cruise ships in Vietnam, with over 80,000 guests visiting in 2023.

One of the ships that visited the destination was the Resorts World One, which arrived for a transit call in May 2024.

Operated by Asia-based Resorts World Cruises, the 1999-built vessel brought nearly 2,130 guests to the province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

The visit was part of a five-day cruise to Southeast Asia that departed from Singapore and also included calls at other ports in the region.

Royal Caribbean International’s Spectrum of the Seas also sailed to Ba Ria-Vung Tau earlier this year, bringing over 4,500 guests to the destination.

Mitsui Ocean Cruises Reveals Onboard Entertainment Lineup
October 22, 2024
New entertainers
Mitsui Ocean Cruises today unveiled the entertainment lineup for its newest cruise ship, the Mitsui Ocean Fuji.

According to a press release, the program includes music, theater, comedy, dance, games and enrichment.

The lineup brings together Funatabi, which the company describes as beautiful encounters with Japan, with contemporary-style performances to bring an array of engaging activities.

“The new and lively entertainment program of Mitsui Ocean Fuji was designed to uplift our guests with happiness, fun and cultural enrichment filling the ship’s welcoming spaces with music, artistry, and inspiring performances,” said Keiichiro Kawano, Hotel General Manager of the ship.

“We’ve combined classic Japanese performing arts with contemporary acts to deliver an unforgettable experience for our guests.”

Mitsui Ocean Cruises said that the heart of the entertainment onboard the Fuji will be the Ocean State, a multi-function venue that is set to receive Broadway-style production shows.

The 45-minute shows will be performed by world-class singers and dancers, the company added, featuring choreography, costumes and musical scores produced by Belinda King.

The program includes three main performances, such as La Danza, which is described as an international dance show that celebrates the art of dance.

According to Mitsui, the Midnight Hour was created to transform the Ocean Stage into an evening in Chicago, with a show that features nods to Elvis Presley, Peggy Lee, Bill Paul and Booker T.

Amour completes the lineup with a celebration of romantic adventures and love songs, including classics from Stevie Wonder and Michael Bublé.

As part of the Funatabi concept, the Mitsui Ocean Fuji will also present authentic experiences that showcase the local culture of Japan.

The lineup includes Rakugo, the art of Japanese comic storytelling, which will be featured in a comedic solo performance, as well as storytelling classes and an improv variety show with guests and crew.

The ship will also offer arts and crafts classes, as well as a curated selection of Japanese books and local enrichment with special lectures on the country’s literature, art, history and nature.

Other planned activities include live music from a selection of musicians, theme nights, sailaway celebrations, deck parties and trivia from crew members.

Currently being prepared for its debut in Japan, the Mitsui Ocean Fuji is scheduled to sail on its maiden cruise on Dec. 1, 2024.

Hurtigruten Releases Update For Zero-Emission Cruise Ship
October 11, 2024

Sea Zero Ship Concept
Hurtigruten has released updated plans for its Sea Zero project, aiming to debut a zero-emission ship by 2030, according to a press release.

The ship, currently in the research and development phase, will use large batteries, sails and innovative technologies to operate emission-free, with energy consumption expected to be reduced by 40 to 50 percent.

Developed in partnership with Vard and the Norwegian maritime industry, this marks the second set of renderings since the project was first announced in October 2022.

“The cruising industry is a significant polluter, and it is crucial that we now take major steps to reduce emissions. Our goal is to have an emission-free ship in operation by around 2030. We are still in the research and development phase, but we have made significant progress,” said Hurtigruten CEO Hedda Felin.

A key element of the Sea Zero ship will be the sails, which can be raised and lowered as needed and are estimated to reduce energy consumption by about 10 percent, the company stated. Solar panels will provide an additional 2-3 percent in energy savings.

“We still see significant energy savings from having retractable sails with solar panels, but this requires thorough studies, including model tests to be conducted in the coming months. We have also changed the sail type to a more mature design already in use on cargo ships,” added Chief Operating Officer Gerry Larsson-Fedde of Hurtigruten.

“As with all development projects, there will be adjustments to both the design and specifications along the way.”

The Sea Zero ship will feature contra-rotating propellers for its main propulsion, supported by batteries with a capacity of approximately 60 megawatt-hours. Two retractable stern thrusters will enhance maneuverability in port and improve safety through redundancy.

“The central part of the project is to reduce energy consumption. The goal is to use significantly less energy than today’s ships, which requires innovative solutions,” added Larsson-Fedde.

Hurtigruten said it is implementing air lubrication of the hull, where air bubbles reduce drag and save 5-10 percent energy. Improved ventilation, insulation and advanced energy management also contribute to energy savings

Hurtigruten’s “smart cabins” will let guests control heating and ventilation via an app and screen, allowing them to monitor their energy usage. This feature aims to raise awareness of sustainability among guests.“We are already testing advanced sensors in these cabins, and in the near future, we will conduct full-scale tests with guests onboard,” concluded Larsson-Fedde.

Other restaurants returning onboard the ship include the Surfside Café, a self-service casual eatery, the Commodore Main Dining Room, and Nama Sushi and Sashimi.

According to Norwegian, the ship’s bar and lounge lineup includes returning favorites such as the Whisky Bar and the Belvedere Bar.

The Metropolitan Bar, the company’s Sail & Sustain cocktail, will also make a return with a special menu of sustainable beverages.

The ship will also feature the Swirl, which is described by Norwegian as a cozy wine bar designed for a laid-back, intimate experience.

As the fourth vessel in the company’s Prima class, the Norwegian Luna is scheduled to enter service on April 4, 2026.

During its maiden season, the 156,300-ton ship offers a series of week-long cruises to the Caribbean departing from Miami.
