This is the sky in Saariselka at 10.30 in Polar night period.
Polar night in Saariselka is a period in the winter when the sun doesn't rise above the horizon, and occurs from December 3 to January 11:
When it happens: Polar night occurs in the middle of winter, around late November, and lasts until the sun returns in late January. The polar night is longer the closer you are to the North Pole.
What it's like: The polar night is not completely dark, as the moon, stars, and Northern Lights reflect off the snow, creating a blue dusk. You can move around outside without additional light.
What to see: In clear weather, you can see the sky with different hues of blue and red.

I couldn't have wished for a more magical beginning to 2025! My New Year's adventure in Lapland, Finland, was nothing short of extraordinary. Over just four nights—two in Rovaniemi and two in Saariselka—I experienced the wonder of a lifetime. The weather had been gloomy and overcast for weeks, but as if by a stroke of fortune, the skies cleared up on the last day of 2024 and the first day of 2025.

This photo, taken on January 1st, 2025, just 10 km from Saariselka, captures a night under the pristine, star-filled sky. Despite the biting cold of -15 degrees Celsius, I stayed out for two hours, and it was absolutely worth it!

The Forbidden City (Chinese: 紫禁城; pinyin: Zǐjìnchéng) is the imperial palace complex in the center of the Imperial City in Beijing, China. It was the residence of 24 Ming and Qing dynasty Emperors, and the center of political power in China for over 500 years from 1420 to 1924. The palace is now administered by the Palace Museum. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world. The Forbidden City is arguably the most famous palace in all of Chinese history, and is the largest preserved royal palace complex still standing in the world.

The Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus is a theatre in the Greek city of Epidaurus, located on the southeast end of the sanctuary dedicated to the ancient Greek God of medicine, Asclepius. Constructed in late 4th century BC, it is considered to be the most perfect ancient Greek theatre with regard to acoustics and aesthetics.

Not more than 100m from this place is the Sunken city of ancient Epidaurus, a small settlement which might have been a trading post in ancient times. The Sunken City was accidentally discovered in the 1970s due to an aerial photo taken from a hot-air balloon.
