Hanging out with elephants was truly delightful!

I was unaware that each elephant has its own keeper, a human from a very particular family of keepers hailing from the northern regions of Thailand. These dedicated keepers are required to remain with their assigned elephants for the entirety of their lives. There are no breaks for vacations, illnesses, or any other interruptions. The keeper's commitment is unwavering; they must be there for the elephant around the clock.

An elephant's sleep pattern is quite unique, comprising only three hours per day. However, these three hours are not continuous; they may consist of several short intervals, such as 15 minutes here and another 15 minutes there. The keeper must be in close proximity to the elephant at all times. If the elephant senses that the keeper is not nearby, it becomes visibly anxious, emitting loud calls and trumpeting with its trunk.

In the unfortunate event that a keeper passes away before their elephant, it results in a substantial crisis. The elephant finds it exceedingly challenging to accept another human companion for years. Can you imagine a profession with such extraordinary dedication and connection between humans and these magnificent creatures?
