Douiret is one of the main villages in the Demer* region of southern Tunisia. It has a population of over 4,000, half of whom live in the main settlement dominated by the ruined citadel, the ksar, which stands proudly against the sky. The rest of the population is spread across some twenty hilltop hamlets, some of which are still Berber-speaking.

A place from beautiful Tunisia 🇹🇳❤️ Bulla regia - Jendouba.

Located 180 kilometers from Tunis, Boula Regia can be reached either via the road between Jendouba and Ain Draham, or via Boussalem by first heading towards Balta, then taking the road leading to Ain Draham, which passes through Boula.

For three-quarters of the site, Bulairegia is still underground. Only part of the city has been excavated. However, this part includes a collection of public and private buildings that characterize Roman cities. The degree of integrity of some of these monuments (e.g. the theater) and the quaintness of others (e.g. houses with an underground floor) explain the visitor's interest in this site.

Bohdma National Park was established on December 18, 1980, and is located in the Mzouna district of Sidi Bouzid Governorate. The park covers an area of 16,448 hectares and is home to desert and semi-desert animals. In the mountains, a rare arroyo species lives, as well as the "Qandi" - a rodent - and the royal eagle. At the bottom of the mountain and in the plain, the Dorcas gazelle, desert foxes, gerbils, and the Arax antelope, an animal that became extinct around 1930 and was reintroduced to the park in 1986
in 1986.

The vegetation of the park is largely composed of a type of acacia tree called Acacia wadiana, a tree whose roots go down to about 40 meters deep into the ground, enabling it to resist drought for many years. The Acacia radiana forest covered 38,000 hectares in 1853, but only 10 hectares remained in 1957. Thanks to the protection of these trees, the forest has returned to cover 16,000 hectares today. Many types of flowers appear in Bohdma Park in the spring, especially if there is a lot of rain in the winter. An old tower built in 1892 as a station for caravans is located in the center of the park.
Next to the tower is an environmental museum dedicated to receiving and guiding visitors.
In Bohdma, artifacts have been found that indicate the presence of humans in this area for decades. Bohdma was also an important agricultural area during the Roman era, and they left traces of dams, canals and basins that indicate the extent of the development of irrigation methods in that era.

Tunisian Brik with Tuna and Egg:

Often eaten on the go or to break the fast during Ramadan, the brick (brika in Arabic) is a savory starter originating from Tunisia, garnished with ingredients typical of the culinary culture of this country: tuna (canned), egg and potato. This triangular turnover is stuffed, then fried briefly so that its outside is crispy and the egg inside is runny. They come in all shapes, sizes and fillings, from North Africa to Eastern Europe. The secret of our ultra-crunchy brikas? We opted for spring roll sheets rather than pastry dough.

24/01/2024

The Kantaoui Port is a marina located northwest of the city of Sousse, which has become one of the most important seaside resorts in Tunisia.

Tall palm trees, thousand-year-old fortresses and ramparts overlooking long sandy beaches: such is the coast of the Tunisian Sahel.

Sousse, city of contrasts, is both a city of history and a modern and lively city. Its intact medina leaves a vivid impression, with its high ramparts of golden stone facing the sea, its souks and alleys, its monuments weathered by time, while the modern districts show their dynamism with their avenues lined with palm trees, the port and the many shops and entertainment venues.

Near Sousse, the integrated resort of the port proudly bears its nickname of “the first port-garden of the Mediterranean”. entirely built in a Tunisian style of Arab-Andalusian inspiration, The port is a homogeneous and verdant set of hotels, residences, shops and places of leisure, the heart of which is made up of a marina of 340 rings. and a superb golf course.
The project to create an integrated tourist resort on 307 hectares is the result of an idea by Tunisian President Habib Bourguiba, who wishes to develop tourism in the Sahel region.

It was studied in 1971 by the Tourist Financial Company of Tunis in the area of Sidi El-Kantaoui located on the territory of the municipality of Hammam Sousse, north of Sousse. It is up to the Société d’études et de développement de Sousse-Nord to study the economic and financial opportunity of the project and to assume the role of general promoter. Once the work started under the direction of Olivier-Clément Cacoub, the port was dug and small condominium apartment buildings (Maisons de la Mer) were built around it.
The port was opened in 19791 and it was to the Société hôtelière et tourisme El-Kantaoui that the Société d’études et de développement de Sousse-Nord delegated the task of developing and managing the resort. An 18-hole golf course was laid out in 1980 on 130 hectares on the hillside and, at the end of the 1990s, the land occupied by the car park located at the entrance to the port made it possible to extend the complex by the construction of a new district (Houses of the Gardens) and a permanent fairground (Hannibal Park) which allows a diversification of the leisure activities offered. Three to five star hotels are being built around the complex and along the coast towards Chott Meriem to the north and Hammam Sousse to the south.

The port is a real village, mostly pedestrian, built according to an architecture reminiscent of the village of Sidi Bou Saïd in its Arab-Moorish style, the whiteness of its walls, its arcades, its vaults and its alleys decorated with flowers.
The resort hosts many shops including restaurants, cafes and shops for foreign tourists who frequent the site for its seven kilometers of beach. In addition, during the summer period, many events take place at the port, including the International Summer Internet Festival (from 2000), regattas, musical stages, etc. These assets also attract many Sahelians who come for a bit of relaxation during the weekend or the holidays. The construction of Yasmine Hammamet in the early 2000s did not cause attendance to decline.

The port can accommodate up to 340 boats over a total area of four hectares.

Tozeur, a change of scenery just 2 hours 30 minutes from Paris. As the gateway to the Sahara, this southern Tunisian town has a captivating brick-built medina and a vast palm grove that forms one of the country's most beautiful oases.

Around Tozeur, between the Chott el-Djérid and the Atlas mountains marking the border with Algeria, spectacular landscapes leave you breathless: sand or salt plains, dunes, canyons, wadis, ghost villages, dromedaries, fennecs and sand roses create striking tableaux with a taste of adventure.

An intense, little-known Tunisia, a world away from the hustle and bustle of Tunis and the seaside resorts of the coast.

Zraoua is one of the Berber villages-built hundreds of years ago. The village was built by its founding inhabitants on a high plateau in the Matmata Mountains, not far from the two Berber villages of Taoujout and Tamazerat. The old settlement includes multistory houses with walls made of local stone and plaster, while using palm branches and tree trunks. The Amazigh village “Echraoua” has attracted the attention of many directors and film producers and it has been a privileged place for them to shoot scenes for several films, including “La soif noire” by French director Jean-Jacques Annaud and the doc-fiction “The Rite of Man” by French filmmaker Jacques Malaterre.
In 2010, the Italian director Guido Chiesa gave the first turn of the crank for the shooting of his film entitled “Let it be” in Matmata and particularly in Zraoua. The film tells the story of Saint Mary but in an anthropological way.
Referring to this character, he – in an interview granted to the tap agency in 2010 – specified that he wanted to evoke the questions of motherhood and mother-son relationships through the story of a young girl living in Galilee 2000 years ago”. This is also why the choice of the scenography focused mainly on Zraoua berber village, whose natural setting is very close to the land of Israel at that time.

Tunisian almond cakes (Kaak louz -كعك لوز):

Tunisian pastries are a true art. Certainly the composition in general remains simple, especially the one I share today.

Shaping, on the other hand, requires a bit of a hand. Beyond the recipe, it's a return to my childhood memories and the end of year celebrations.
The "kaak louz" is one of these popular holiday pastries. A classic of Tunisian pastries which is also charged with emotion and childhood memories. And a pastry well recognizable by its ring shape and the two pistachios that decorate it.

It's a good way to start with Tunisian almond-based pastries. And it's a real treat during the holidays or elsewhere!!!

Tunisian Blankite Salad:

This specialty of Greater Tunis is a recipe that can be used to enhance bread two days before. For Tunisians, it is eaten either as an aperitif or as a cold starter. For my part, I used a fresh baguette, but you can also use stale bread, which is rather soft.

This recipe for Tunisian blankite salad is perfect as a toast for an aperitif, a cold buffet or even as an appetizer. These little bites are absolutely delicious and if you don't like the spiciness simply remove the spiciness from the ingredients.

A place in Tunisia, Al-Mzyana, Al-Sammar city, Tataouine, Tunisia 🇹🇳❤️
In Tataouine, south-eastern Tunisia, there is the “Ain Charchara” site, which is known today as “the surface of the moon.” It is very similar to the moon, and as soon as you enter the place, you quickly forget the planet Earth and sail into a world of dreams.

Rocks of various and strange geometric shapes, most of which are mushroom-shaped, and of different colors - silver, red, and brown - on which spiral lines are carved in a strange symmetry, dominated by a dark black color. A place almost devoid of any plants. It is “the surface of the moon.”
