Antalya Metropolitan Municipality is starting a special lane application for public buses in order to reduce traffic congestion and encourage public transportation. The right lane on the main arteries will be reserved only for buses and public transportation vehicles will proceed uninterruptedly without getting stuck in the congestion.
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality continues its works to prevent the congestion experienced from time to time in Antalya due to the increasing number of vehicles registered in traffic and intense migration in recent years. The Metropolitan Municipality, which is trying to reduce traffic congestion with smart intersection applications, intersection arrangement and lane widening works, is preparing to switch to a new application. In particular, special lane application for public transportation vehicles will be started on Yüzüncü Yıl Boulevard and main arteries where traffic flow is the most intense in the east and west directions of Antalya.
Nurettin Şengül, Head of the Transportation Planning and Rail System Department of the Metropolitan Municipality, drew attention to the fact that there is an 8-lane road on Yüzüncü Yıl Boulevard, but two lanes are used less due to the parks on the right lanes. Stating that traffic flow is mostly provided through underpasses, Nurettin Şengül said, “We will make smart junction arrangements at the junctions above Şarampol, Güllük and Falez underpasses. In order to provide fast passages, we will paint the right lanes and ensure that only public transport vehicles use them. In this way, a fast flow will be provided without buses getting stuck in traffic. We will install cameras on underpasses. We will make instant interventions against accidents or sudden blockages.”
