Aphrodisias was an ancient city located in modern-day western Turkey. It was named after the Greek goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite, and was famous for its temple dedicated to the goddess. The city was also known for its school of sculpture, which produced some of the finest works of art of the ancient world. Aphrodisias was an important center of culture and learning and was home to a number of notable scholars and philosophers. Today, the ruins of Aphrodisias are a popular tourist destination, with many well-preserved ancient buildings, including the Temple of Aphrodite, the Tetrapylon, and the Stadium, which is one of the best preserved of its kind in the world.
