Built in 500 A.D., the Galata Tower is a dominating landmark of Istanbul. Often referred to as the Galata Kulesi, a medieval structure erected hundreds of years ago is located close to the main junction of the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn.
The Tower was used by the Ottoman military band, a fire observatory in 1717 because of its excellent bird's-eye view of the city and also it was used as a watchtower to help defend the city.
