TTFibroid

TTFibroid Specialized in the treatment of uterine fibroids using UFE. This procedure can take between 1 to 3 hours and does not require general anesthesia.

UFE (uterine fibroid embolization) is a minimally invasive procedure that blocks blood flow to the uterine fibroid causing reduction or disappearance of the fibroid. UFE is a procedure that is done by an interventional radiologist and is performed in order to treat uterine fibroids. This procedure is best recommended for women who do not wish to treat fibroids with hysterectomy (complete or partia

l removal of the uterus), or are close to menopause. In this procedure, an X-Ray camera, referred to as the fluroscope, to guide the delivery of contrast material to the uterine arteries via a catheter placed into the left arm to access the left brachial artery. The catheter is then guided to the uterine arteries that supply blood to the fibroid, and a solution of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is injected into that artery, which eventually builds up and causes blockage of blood flow to the fibroid. Prior to the procedure, ultrasound may be done done to check for, and assess the fibroids. Inform your doctor of all medications (including herbal supplements and over-the-counter medication) that you are taking, and also any allergies you may have. You should also inform your doctor of any recent illnesses or medical conditions. If you suspect that you are pregnant, do inform your doctor. You may also be advised to stop taking certain medications which can affect the procedure such as blood thinners. You may or may not stay overnight in the clinic after the procedure. You may experience cramping a few days after the procedure, with the cramps being most severe within the first 24 hours of the procedure. The pain will be controlled with pain medication, and if nausea is present, that will also be controlled. The discomfort improves rapidly over the next few days. Some women have been known to pass fibroids; if so, return to your doctor as soon as possible to ensure infection and bleeding problems do not occur. You can return to normal activity one to two weeks after the procedure. On average, UFE can reduce the volume of a fibroid by up to 50%, with approximately 80 to 90 out of every hundred women reporting improvement in their symptoms after the procedure. This procedure is done via appointment; to make an appointment, contact Anna Rampersad through the number provided in the Phone section.
