Some shots from this past Sunday - another pristine day adventuring with new friends at Maling Hot Springs! Fortunately for us, the sky has simply refused to host any clouds whenever we’ve been there.

If you’d like to book a tour with us, don’t hesitate to send us a message.

Happy adventuring!

Awesome day out today with Shine and Lauren at Maling Hot Springs. Weather couldn’t have been more perfect (okay.. could’ve been a bit warmer in the morning 😂) and we made it to the hot springs in high spirits. At the hot springs we enjoyed some delicious grub and then soaked in the baths, warming our bones. On the way back the sun was at its peak and quickly warmed us up, as we crossed back and forth through the cool river water. A perfect day, and a perfect way to start 2021. Happy new year everyone!

The bittersweet end point of the river trace to Shanzi/Fan Waterfall. Sweet because of the beautiful waterfall, and bitter because the river trace is finished! Truly one of the best river traces in Taiwan, in our opinion 😊

update! so fast! the tour on the 13th of December to Maling Hot Springs is full as of right now, and there are still 2 spots available for the tour on the 12th.

Tour announcement!

We got a lot of interest for the tour on the 29th of November, to Maling Hot Springs in Taichung County, but as there are only 3 spots available on each tour, it filled up quickly.

We've decided to offer the same tour again, on Saturday the 12th and Sunday the 13th of December. One spot has already been reserved for the tour on the 12th, therefore there are 2 spots open for the 12th, and 3 spots available for the 13th.

Again, both of these tours are FREE!

Here is some information about the tour:

To get to the hot springs it’s a ~12km return hike, which takes about 1.5-4 hours one way.

One thing you should know is that from the parking area we will need to go around 3 gates in the road. Anyone who hikes to Maling Hot Springs does this. The guards are aware that people are going around to get to the hot springs and look the other way, so although it might be off-putting at first, it is really nothing to worry about.

As we will not need to go above our knees in the river for this river-trace, life vests will not be needed, but if you are not able to swim and want to get into one of the swimming holes, they can be provided. Helmets and gloves will be available as well.

I’ll be whipping you guys up a delicious bite to eat either when we arrive, or later in the day, depending on when you get hungry, and snacks and drinks will be provided too.

Pick up and drop-off is in Beitun district at 7am, and we will be arriving back to the city sometime between 4-7pm, depending on the pace at which the group hikes.

Valley of the Gods first and second tier, 7-Layer Waterfall, and Kuhua waterfall, in Miaoli county. Posting these three waterfalls as a series, because they are all able to be visited in one day. Once it warms up, who’s down to visit this trifecta? 😃

Tour announcement! For our next tour we will be headed to Maling Hot Spring 馬陵野溪溫泉 in Heping District, Taichung, on Sunday the 29th of November. There are 3 spots available for this tour.

The hike to Maling Hot Spring is ~12km of flat river tracing, and takes about 1.5-3 hours one-way.

As you can see the hike offers spectacular views, and the hot springs at the end are well worth the effort!

Message us if you are interested in getting on this tour or have any questions.

Happy adventuring! ☺️

Awesome visit to Jingying hot spring and waterfall as well as Yunhai Hot spring, located about 3km upstream from the falls.

With a cloudless sky and crisp mountain air, we couldn’t have asked for a better day to get out for an adventure.

We arrived to Jingying at noon and John got straight to work, cooking up a mouth-watering steak, bacon and Brie sandwich for the crew.
Fully fuelled and ready for the journey ahead, we loved every minute of swimming, hopping, wading, and climbing to the day’s three different spots. All in all there was about 8km of hiking and river tracing, with many memorable moments along the way.

This was truly a wonderful day. If you’re interested in joining an adventure with us, please don’t hesitate to send us a message!

We will be posting our next tour within a week’s time, but are always available to discuss custom tours based on your wants/needs.

Happy adventuring!

Doing some “market research” 😉.. we went on a jam-packed adventure to Hsinchu county this past weekend and visited four new waterfalls: Baxian Waterfall 八仙瀑布, Kuhua Pond Waterfall 苦花潭瀑布, Valley of the Gods Waterfall 神仙谷瀑布, and 7 Layer Waterfall 七分醉瀑布.

As you can see, each was distinctly different but all were beautiful, and we can’t wait to get back when it’s a bit warmer. For now, I think we can all appreciate the cooler mornings and evenings, and it’s time to start hunting down some hot springs!

Update!

As the weather is (finally) starting to cool off a bit, we think it might be time to bring you to a hot spring rather than a waterfall, but maybe both is better!

So, for the next tour, we plan to head into the mountains of Nantou to see Jingying Hot Spring + Jingying waterfall, as well as Yunhai Hot Spring, about 2km upstream from Jingying falls. The date that we will run this tour will be Sunday, November 1st.

To get to Yunhai Hot Spring we will need to climb up four, 3 meter high dams. There are ropes set up at the side of these dams we are able to use to climb up. As well, we will bring the necessary climbing gear so that we can belay while you climb up.

On this tour, as you soak in the warm water at Yunhai hot spring and take in the beautiful surroundings, John will set up a BBQ and prepare some delicious food as well as a fire. When the smell from the food is enough to get you out of the warm water onto the river bank, we will enjoy a meal next to the flowing turquoise river.

Escape the hazy city into the crisp, clear mountains of Nantou and experience the adventure of a lifetime with us. We hope, if you decide to come on this adventure, to make it one of your favorite memories of your time in Taiwan. Join us!

P.S. as stated before, this tour will be FREE(tips are welcomed). There are three spots available. Transportation will be provided from Caotun township. Helmets, life jackets, gloves, sun screen, towels, snacks, and drinks will be provided, as well as a meal while at the hot spring.

The total hiking distance when John first went was 9.2km with 325 meters of ascent; please be aware that a moderate level of fitness and strength will be necessary for this adventure to be enjoyable for you.

Happy adventuring!

*p.p.s while John had photos from his first trip to Jingying Hot Spring, his phone wasn’t so lucky in surviving his second trip there, when he visited Jingying falls/Yunhai Hot Spring. Therefore photos from Jingying Falls and Yunhai Hot Spring have been borrowed from Instagram to give you some more insight as to where we’re going.

A few shots from our first tour. Thank you to Jessie and Travis for coming along on Taiwan Waterfall Tours’ very first tour!

We had a ton of fun. Jessie and Travis courageously climbed up from the first tier to the second. To get up to the second tier, you have to climb an almost vertical 12 foot wall of rock by taking hold of a rope and pulling yourself up. They made it look easy! While we managed to have lots of fun at Dexing, we were not so lucky in getting to Xiaobantian waterfall, however we did have the scratches to show we tried.

Xiaobantian Waterfall was once a popular waterfall for tourists as Dexing Waterfall currently is, and it is only 10 minutes down the road. It is bigger, and the pool in front is very large and deep- great for swimming in! While an earthquake destroyed the original path to the waterfall, it is still possible to get there by going through the bamboo forest. Our guide John went to Xiaobantian in May but wasn’t prepared for the significant growth that occurred between spring and end of summer. The forest was (even more) dense with vegetation, and without the right tools it was impossible to find a way through.

John will be going back within the next couple of weeks armed with a machete to hack a trail through the dense vegetation, so that hopefully in the near future you all get the chance to see Xiaobantian in all its glory, whether it be with us or on your own adventure. It’s definitely worth the struggle...stay tuned on how that goes.

All of that being said, our next scheduled tour will be on Sunday, October 18th, to Dexing Waterfall+Xiaobantian Waterfall. There are three spots available for this tour. Transportation will be provided from Caotun Township to both waterfalls and back. Snacks, drinks, life vests, helmets, gloves, towels, and sunscreen will also be provided.
The best part about this tour, is that IT IS COMPLETELY FREE! While tips are welcome, Taiwan Waterfall Tours is happy in its early stages to gain experience in offering you a fun yet safe adventure, at no cost.

If you have any questions or are interested in joining us on our adventure on October 18th, just send us a message.

Happy adventuring! TWT

Scrambling up from the first tier to check out the second. With climbing gear it is possible to make it up to the second tier.

Flag lake is not a towering waterfall but it’s still a ton of fun! The pool is deep and clear, the river trace is easily manageable yet fun, and it’s beautifully set.
