🇹🇿How can someone volunteer in Tanzania?🇹🇿
Volunteering can be an amazing experience for you to go Tanzania. You can experience living & working in a different country & broaden your horizon by learning about & adapting to a new culture. I would encourage anyone to go for it, but there are some things you should consider first.
It all depends on the organisation you choose. As a volunteer expert & with a lot of experience of working with NGOs in Tanzania, I'd recommend:
1.To be prepared for what you can expect. Learn about the culture, the language, & what it means to volunteer or do an internship in Tanzania. Many orgs offer a preparation seminar & it will help you loads, I promise.
2.Find an org that will help you with your visa, recommend insurance, vaccinations, etc. Of course, you can do this on your own but it definitely makes things easier & safer to get a local opinion.
3.Learn some of the local Kiswahili language. It is super helpful if you can say hi, negotiate & ask for directions. Definitely, you should continue your language studies during your stay in Tanzania.
4.Look out for working for projects interested in sustainable work. You wouldn’t want to be your work in vain, would you? To make your service more sustainable, spend at least six months in Tanzania & make sure the projects & ideas you set up during that time will be continued even after your departure.
Unfortunately, volunteering has gotten a bad connotation. Many volunteer orgs have tried to make a profit from volunteers. Make sure, their prices are reasonable with the services they offer.
5.Get info about your stay in Tanzania.
It is important to connect with other volunteers for reflection, exchange ideas & think about sustainable work. Inter-seminars offered by your org can help you to get this helpful support.
