Tanzania is famous for its abundance of wildlife. There are the big five, many big cats, predators, and hordes of herbivores like zebras and wildebeests. The herbivores migrate across the meadows every year, with incredible river crossings along the path of this Great Migration.

Tanzania Safari Tours are a trip of a lifetime. And the good news is you can go on Safari Tanzania all year round.

The best season to visit Tanzania is during the long dry season, which falls from July to September. These are considered the best months for safaris, the Great Migration, trekking, and beach holidays in Zanzibar. Of course, these months are peak travel season

Pack your bags & book your now to enjoy the upcoming best season to visit Tanzania.

The Secretary bird.
Its latin name ‘Sagittarius serpentarius’ means ‘the archer of snakes’. With is big wings acting as a distraction the bird is able to swat and pin down snakes with their long scaly legs, which also prevents them from getting bitten. Though their legs seem skinny they are know to have ome of the strongest kick in the animal kingdom, being able to generate 5-6 times their bodyweight in force. 💨

are successful in hunting AND scavenging. They can travel over 60km a night, in search of food if need be. They prey on the young of wildebeest, Kudu, but also opportunistic and could take down almost any mammal, bird, reptiles and even fish, vegetable matter, carrion and sometimes garbage. Here you can observe the Spotted Hyena hunting for a frog.

💨The giraffe is Tanzania’s national symbol and, as such, it is protected by law. It is a graceful animal whose long neck represents the ability to be visionary while still viewing the past and present.

💨It reminds Tanzanians to increase their understanding by viewing life from all angles and to use their strength and flexibility to align the physical, mental and spiritual just like the giraffe. 🦒

KORI BUSTARD.
The Kori Bustard (Ardeotis kori) is the largest flying bird native to Africa. In fact, the male Kori Bustard may be the heaviest living animal capable of flight.
This species, like most bustards, is a ground-dwelling bird and an opportunistic omnivore. Male Kori Bustards, which can be more than twice as heavy as the female, attempt to breed with as many females as possible and then take no part in the raising of the young.
Kori bustards spend most of their time on the ground, with up to 70% of their time being on foot, although they do occasionally forage in low bushes and trees. This bustard is a watchful and wary bird. Their behavior varies however, and they are usually very shy, running or crouching at the first sign of danger; at other times they can be completely fearless of humans.

Dung beetles may be small, but they sure are mighty, in fact, with their head to the ground, it's been said they can roll a dung ball 50 times their own weight, making them the world's strongest insect with a crucial role in the ecosystem.

🦴 Without them and their waste-removal service, the area would quickly be buried under layers of dung produced by thousands of animals. When they break down dung, they return nutrients to the soil, which helps plants grow; this, in turn, feeds the herbivores, who produce more dung for the beetles.

🦴These fascinating insects also possess the amazing ability to navigate at night using the position of celestial bodies like the Milky Way.

👣 Walking safaris are a great way to get that much closer to the smaller creatures of the wild and hopefully witness these extraordinary beetles at work.

Arusha city is located in the north-eastern corner of Tanzania. It was named after the local tribe Wa-Arusha, who are also known as Larusa by the Maasai. Arusha is a home to approximately 1.7 million people where about 740,442 live in the urban area/city (NBS HCensus 2012), making it the third largest city in Tanzania. The population growth rate is tagged to the national average of 2.7%.
Arusha city is a global tourist destination and is the center of the northern Tanzania safari circuit. The city is surrounded by several national parks and reserves, but predominantly, at the close proximity of Mount Kilimanjaro the highest free standing mountain in Africa, approximately one hour drive from the city center, Ngorongoro Crater where surprisingly humans coexist in harmony with the wild, and the Serengeti National Park which is a home to thousands of wild animals, including the fascinating wildebeests and zebras migration. The three were recently declared among seven natural wonders of Africa, making it the best safari destination in the world.
A few miles away from the city, you will find the Mererani mining site, where the Tanzanite gemstones are found. The jewel that is 1000+ times rarer than diamonds are only found at the footsteps of Mount Kilimanjaro in the United Republic of Tanzania.
One of the most popular dishes of Arusha is Nyama Choma, a northern Tanzanian barbeque dish. Nyama Choma is properly served with a side of Pili Pili sauce and a cold local beer or soda. Indeed, Arusha has always been on the list of the must visit places and the destination of choice to many.

A barred owl (Strix varia) pauses the hunt to evaluate a distant noise.

This young owl was probably worried about the resident great horned owls, their only natural predator in the area. Barred owls and great horned owls will share territory, however the barred owls will typically relocate to the opposite side of the territory when a great horned owl shows up to avoid becoming a menu item for the larger owl. Despite the deference to great horned owls, barred owls are very territorial and will actively call and attempt to intimidate trespassers. This behavior is more aggressive when there is an active nest site nearby. Barred owls have been known to turn this aggression on humans that approach their nesting areas. This is understandable given their instinctual desire to protect their young.

Protective parenting aside, barred owls are not a threat to humans. I have been around many barred owls nests and have never been the target of barred owl aggression. I suspect many of the incidents involving humans has more to do with the human not being aware of the owls and loudly approaching too close to their nest.

What is wildebeest calving?

Wildebeest calving occurs from late January to mid March, when more than 80% of the females give birth over a period of a few weeks. Never far away are the carnivores. Lion, hyena, leopard, cheetah and lesser predators await the annual calving with eager anticipation.

🇹🇿
Southern Ground Hornbills are carnivorous and hunt mostly on the ground. Their food ranges from insects to small animals. Their nests are often found in high tree cavities or other shallow cavities, such as rock holes in cliff faces. These birds are a long-lived species, having lifespans in the range of 50–60 years, and up to 70 in captivity. In relation to their long lives, they do not reach s*xual maturity until 4–6 years old, and begin breeding around 10 years old. Their s*x can be identified by the color of their throats: the male's is pure red and the female's is a deep violet-blue.

🐘Elephants are the largest land mammals on earth and have distinctly massive bodies, large ears, and long trunks. They use their trunks to pick up objects, trumpet warnings, greet other elephants, or suck up water for drinking or bathing, among other uses. Both male and female African elephants grow tusks and each individual can either be left- or right-tusked, and the one they use more is usually smaller because of wear and tear. Elephant tusks serve many purposes. These extended teeth can be used to protect the elephant's trunk, lift and move objects, gather food, and strip bark from trees. They can also be used for defense. During times of drought, elephants even use their tusks to dig holes to find water underground.

📃Two genetically different African species exist: the savanna elephant and the forest elephant, with a number of characteristics that differentiate them both. The African savanna elephant is the largest elephant species, while the Asian forest elephant and the African forest elephant are of a comparable, smaller size.

📃Asian elephants differ in several ways from their African relatives, with more than 10 distinct physical differences between them. For example, Asian elephants' ears are smaller compared to the large fan-shaped ears of the African species. Only some male Asian elephants have tusks, while both male and female African elephants grow tusks.

📃Led by a matriarch, elephants are organized into complex social structures of females and calves, while male elephants tend to live in isolation or in small bachelor groups. A single calf is born to a female once every four to five years and after a gestation period of 22 months—the longest of any mammal. Calves are cared for by the entire herd of related females. Female calves may stay with their maternal herd for the rest of their lives, while males leave the herd as they reach puberty. Forest elephants' social groups differ slightly and may be comprised of only an adult female and her offspring. However, they may congregate in larger groups in forest clearings where resources are more abundant.

Did you know that giraffes have the same number of neck vertebrae as us? Only seven! The difference is that each neck bone is up to 25 centimetres (10 inches) long in fully grown adults.

Some of the advantages of having a long neck:👇

👉Access to the choicest leaves on top of shrubs or trees, which decreases food competition between them and other herbivores.

👉Ability to spot predators from far away, which means that other browsers tend to rely on giraffes to alert them to potential threats. That giraffe death stare is unmistakable!

👉Males use their long necks to establish dominance with other males, a potentially lethal swinging of their necks known as ‘necking’.

This is what the inside of a Secretary bird's mouth looks like. Who wants to say what is going on here?

This is the passage for its airway, when the mouth is closed then this hole is open and allows the bird to breath, when the mouth opens to eat, then this hole close so that food and water does not enter the airway. This is also why an untrained person should never use a syringe to give food or water.

"This mother jackal had two young puppies that she was taking care of, like any young mammals the puppies were full of energy and running all over the place. She was continuously chasing after them as they explored their environment, including spending several minutes probing this termite mound. As they headed off, she briefly mounted the termite mound and closed her eyes, as if catching a brief moment of rest before heading off again."
