While the word ‘safari’ refers to expeditions to observe animals in their natural habitats, it has become so closely tied with the wildlife experiences of the African continent that the word almost instantly brings to mind visions of lions lying in a grassy plain or hippos poking their heads from the surface of a river, wildebeest migrating across the savanna, or a parade of elephants seeking out water.
