Wild lions do have a growing problem. A really big one. Due to them now forced into a small fragment of their historic hunting grounds, thanks to hunting, persecution and habitat loss, what was once a 'no-no' is now happening.
Inbreeding.
The fewer lions we see have resulted in a depleted gene pool -- thereby, creating a weaker lion -- which we still believe is not possible... Their wonderful diversity, their large gene pool once naturally available, is no longer there. The general population does not yet notice their slow destruction. They do not see it.
Oh, but they will.

Klipspringers are like mountain goats in that they have split hooves that allow them to climb rocks and cliffs. These 2 have just bonded to become a mated pair. They use the scent glands to mark their teritory. When they follow each other, mark and taste the same branches it means they have just mated.
What I like:
You can see the scent glands on each face.

Only older male Cape buffalo have something called a boss.
A 'boss' is like a helmet.
If you see a Cape buffalo bull and he looks like a mature specimen but you are not sure... Look at his horns.
If there is still clear separation visible between the base of each horn -- he might be grown but still not fully mature and thereby, not breeding fit. Those bases [of horn] grow until they touch and the bulls are getting fitted with some of Nature's best armour because they need that to fight other bulls and dominate. Never mind fighting other large predators. When the 'boss' is fully formed -- he is naturally ready to breed and fight rivals. The 'boss' is a great shield protecting their brain and the Cape Buffalo bull can now deliver and take extreme force.
* Only fully formed when the bull is about 10 years -- sometimes eight or nine years.

Painful love

Mating occurs intensively, filled with uneasiness and violence. Taking place roughly every 15 minutes or so over a period of a few days and lasting less than a minute on each occasion. Like those of other cats, the male lion's p***s has spines that point backward. During withdrawal of the p***s, the spines rake the walls of the female's va**na, which may cause ovulation. At the climax the male typically bites the female's neck as a prelude to the painful withdrawal of his barbed p***s, painful for the lioness that is.

The beautiful Speckled pigeon

The speckled pigeon is a remarkably beautiful bird and some of its unique features are the red exposed patch around its eyes and then a throat of silvery pink-green tipped feathers that the bird can puff out beautifully during courtship displays.

Beautiful Samburu sister(Kenya). By the way for those who do not know. Samburu and Maasai are closely related, but distinct. The Maasai inhabit southern Kenya ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ช and northern Tanzania ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ฟ near many of the most popular game parks, while the Samburu live in north-central Kenya, above the Equator. Both speak slightly different versions of the 'Maa' language.

Today, my great friend Dr. Jane Goodall celebrates her 90th birthday. Dr. Goodall is known for groundbreaking studies of wild Chimpanzees in Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania, which forever changed our understanding of our relationship to the rest of the animal kingdom. This transformative research continues today as the longest running wild Chimpanzee study in the world.

Jane continues to connect with worldwide audiences, trailblazing efforts through her international organization, the Jane Goodall Institute, which advances community-led conservation, animal welfare, science, and youth empowerment through Janeโ€™s Roots & Shoots program.

Happy birthday Jane and thank you for spreading hope and continuing to make meaningful positive impacts for the planet we share.
