- Mechanism: Diamox acidifies the blood, which stimulates breathing and helps your body adjust to higher altitudes by increasing oxygen intake
- Prevention: It's used as a prophylactic measure to prevent altitude sickness, making it easier for your body to acclimatize
Dosage and Usage
- Dosage: The recommended dosage is 125 mg twice daily. You should start taking it 1-2 days before your climb and continue until you reach the summit
- Timing: Take one dose in the morning and another in the afternoon to avoid frequent urination at night
- Trial Run: It's a good idea to try Diamox at home first to check for any side effects, such as tingling sensations in your hands and feet
Precautions
- Consult Your Doctor: Always consult with your doctor before taking Diamox to ensure it's safe for you, especially if you have pre-existing conditions
- Hydration: Drink plenty of fluids while taking Diamox, as it can cause frequent urination
