giraffe boasts the longest legs, tail, and neck of all land mammals, as well as the largest eyes. the neck of the giraffe weighs approximately 270kg. it is also the largest ruminant. giraffe browsing line has a huge impact on shaping the canopies of trees, and they are considered the architects of the african landscape. despite their long necks, it only have seven vertebrae, the same number as human being. the vertebrae over the shoulders have a vertical extension supporting a large ligament that runs from the back of the skull to the base of the tail. this ligament functions like massive rubber band counter-weighing the head and the neck keeping them upright. consequently, very little muscular effort and energy are required
