Luxury African Safaris to Tanzania

Tanzania occupies a special place in the hearts of old and new Africa hands. Its towns and cities are a little less bustling than Kenya’s, and its enchanting gamelands are fully Kenya’s equal in natural plenitude and beauty.

Warrior Adventures Africa , whether private Custom or small group Classic Safaris, almost invariably pay their respects to Tanzania’s Serengeti, the southern half of the Serengeti-Maasai Mara ecosystem, the undisputed capital of the world’s animal kingdom. The Serengeti is amazing in its enormity, its almost infinite skies and long, golden reaches, its million-year quiet. It enraptures with moments of grace; we may well see, as Elspeth Huxley did: a “loping giraffe, like a tiger lily bending with dignity before a gusty breeze.” And then there’s the fabulous, animal-thronged Lost World of the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the world’s most magical places, where we especially (but hardly uniquely) appreciate something Isak Dinesen wrote, “The chief feature of the African landscape…was the air. Looking back on a sojourn in the African highlands, you are struck by the feeling of having lived for a time up in the air….You woke up in the morning and thought, Here I am, where I ought to be.”

How fast can a cheetah run?

Cheetahs are the fastest animals in the world, reaching speeds of up to 120kph or 75mph. They are not only fast but also have amazing acceleration. Researchers found they can increase their speed by 10kph in a single stride. Like a mammalian racing car, the cheetah has stretched the standard feline body plan to the limit, and they are incredibly light on their feet. Adult males weigh 41-45kg on average, and females just 36-37kg.

You might even pick up some tips on high jumping, a skill these impressive natural athletes have turned into an art form.

One last guided walk at sunset will cement your love of this special place, followed by a perfect supper.

meal plan: full board

DAY 10: KOGAKURIA KOPJE: THE MIGRATION ZONE

After breakfast you'll be driven to the Manyara airstrip to board your onward flight to Kogatende, a flying time of just over an hour. From here, you'll be collected by your driver/guide and driven to your extraordinary lodge for the next three nights, magnificently located on a rocky escarpment overlooking the Kogakuria Kopje plains in the northern Serengeti. Here, the wildebeests pass through on their way to the nearby hazardous Mara River crossing in the annual migration, and it's certainly a sight to behold. Stylish, extremely comfortable and crafted with great attention to detail, the lodge is a perfect retreat, complete with an outdoor swimming pool and sun deck for those relaxing moments in between your safari activities. Rooms are designed to enjoy the fabulous cinematic views at all times of the day without conceding privacy.

If you're here during the migration months of July to October, there's no question you'll want to be out there to witness the drama, excitement and sheer scale of the animal crossings from close to the river itself. Your guide will take you to the perfect vantage point where you could literally spend hours in silent awe.

Even outside the migration season, the game viewing here is excellent, with high concentrations of lions, leopards and buffalos providing superb photo opportunities. This area is green and fertile for most of the year, offering gorgeous landscapes as a backdrop for your photos.

DAY 11: WALKING THE WALK

Under the watchful supervision of your expert guide, enjoy a bush walk through the rugged landscape, interspersed with rivers, streams and lines of trees and shrubs, providing excellent camouflage to allow you to approach animals for a closer look. Mount Oldoinyo Lengai is in Lake Natron, Northern Tanzania Africa and is the only active volcano known to emit natrocarbonatites, a rare type of volcanic rock that is rich in sodium, potassium, and calcium carbonate, but low in silica. The Great Wildebeest Calving Migration Safari has been designed specifically to focus on following the Great Serengeti Wildebeest migration during calving from December to April. The areas to be covered are Lake Ndutu area, as well as the Southern and Central areas of Serengeti National Park where the majority of the wildebeest are usually found. A visit to the world famous Ngorongoro Crater is part of this safari as well.

The Southern Serengeti and Ndutu areas in Tanzania are the best locations for the months of January, February and March to witness thousands of wildebeest spread across the plains grazing on the rich short grass plains. Predator action is at its peak with great sightings of cheetah, lion, hyena and leopard and a very good chance to see adrenalin-packed kills.

HIGHLIGHTS: TARANGIRE, NDUTU AREA, NGORONGORO, SERENGETI CENTRAL, LAKE MANYARA

Tour itinerary day by day:

Day 1; Arrival at Kilimanjaro International airport Arusha-Tanzania
A staff member of Warrior Adventures Africa Limited will pick you up from the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). From here, you will be driven to a hotel in Arusha and brief you on your upcoming safari. Enjoy a restful night before beginning your adventure tomorrow!

Arusha, also known as “A” Town by the locals, is situated at the foot of Mount Meru, Africa's 5th highest mountain. The altitude gives the city a pleasant climate and lush green environment. Arusha is not a particularly attractive city in itself and is regarded by many visitors as little more than a necessary stopover before their safari starts in earnest. However, the natural charm of the Tanzanians and the buzz of a fast-growing city mean that Arusha has plenty to offer for those who are prepared to see beyond their air-conditioned safari trucks and satellite-TV equipped hotel rooms.

Meals: B
Accommodation: Kibo Palace Hotel

Day 2; Arusha - Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, we'll drive to Tarangire National Park. We'll have some game viewing in the park to maximize your chances of more wildlife viewing. Before sunset, we’ll drive to a small town of Karatu for dinner and overnight.

Tarangire is the sixth largest national park in Tanzania after Ruaha, Serengeti, Mikumi, Katavi and Mkomazi. Activities will include a wildlife game drive where you can see pythons climb trees, as well as lions and leopards among others. For the bird lovers, keep an eye for the screeching flocks of colorful yellow-collared lovebirds, and the somewhat drabber rufous-tailed weaver and ashy starling. These are all endemic to dry savannah of north-central Tanzania.

Meals: B, L , D
Accommodation: Endoro Lodge

Day 3: Tarangire – Ndutu Area

After breakfast, we will set off for Ndutu area situated in the Ngorongoro conservation area, which is part of the southern Serengeti ecosystem.

Lake Ndutu like most other rift lakes is alkaline, however, the water is still drinkable and consumed by a wide array of local wildlife The majority of the wildebeest migration can normally be found on the short-grass plains tram December to April. The area is usually heavily populated with elephant, birds and resident game.

Meals: B, L, D
Accommodation: Acacia Migration Camp

Day 4: Ndutu - Serengeti National park

You will enjoy a game drive after breakfast in the Ndutu area exploring a great range of various habitats such as swamps, woodland, soda lakes and the world famous Serengeti short grass plains. You will witness herds of wildebeest and zebras especially during a short time-frame from around February and lasting for about 3 weeks where majority of the wildebeest calves. Later continue with game viewing while heading to Serengeti Central for dinner and overnight.

The sea of grass provides little cover and the young make an easy prey for a variety of predators. Wildebeest calves can run minutes after they were born and within 3 days, they are normally strong enough to keep up with the herd.

Meals: B, L, D
Accommodation: Acacia Migration Camp

Day 5: Serengeti National Park (Central)

Enjoy a full day of game drive in the park.
The Serengeti is Tanzania's oldest and most popular National Park. A UNESCO world heritage site and recently proclaimed 7th wonder of the world, Serengeti is famed for its annual migration where some six million hooves pound the open plains. Serengeti offers an exotic game-viewing experience in the whole of Africa giving you an up-close look of the animals you've only seen in National Geographic: great herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, and thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala and Grant's gazelle.

Meals: B, L, D
Accommodation: Acacia Central camp

Day 6: Serengeti - Ngorongoro

We’ll depart after breakfast for Ngorongoro Crater viewing. By sunset we go straight to your accommodation.

Ngorongoro is an extensive highland area along the eastern arm of the Great Rift Valley, with the world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater as its focal point. It is not a national park in the strict sense of the word but was rather established to conserve wildlife and other natural resources. It exists to safeguard the interests of indigenous people as well as promote tourism.

Meals: B, L, D
